Price Check Help pricing a 2720.

Thanks for the replies. I would love to have a 3000 series, but it is to large for me to mow with on our property. I considered a zero turn & a 3000 series, but there is a large part of our property that cannot be mowed by a zero turn. If I would get a 3000 series, I would need another 4WD tractor for mowing. What I need is more power & a faster loader & to speed up mowing, but not a larger size tractor.
What I have decided to go with is the 2720 as described above & I am considering a Z655 zero turn mower to help speed up mowing.

I went to another dealer for a price & am glad I did. From this dealer I am getting the 2720 setup & trade listed above for a difference of $9,159.00. That price includes sales tax. If I add the Z655 to the deal, the difference is $15,068.00 including tax.

After adding sales tax to the first dealers quote, the Z655 is costing $261.00 by going with the second dealers quote.

If a zero turn doesn't work for you, would a X530/X540, or a X7xx series machine do your mowing jobs?

This would allow you to step into the bigger frame and at least a 3320.

I'll ditto this. If you can afford a X7xx and a 3x20 that would be the most ideal for you. If you feel the other combo will do for you then go ahead, but I think you'll be back in the situation of I still don't have enough lift.

I need to explain the 4710. Although I own it, the only time I see it is when I need the backhoe or to lift something very heavy with the forks. The other time my son-in-law uses it in his landscape business.

The reason I am trading is for faster hydraulics & more power. This frame size tractor just works out best for me most of the time. I have a woodworking shop & use the loader a lot to move machines & lumber. My property is not level. The 2320 is short on power when the loader, forks & rear ballast are on. Then add a load on the forks & is is really short on power.

The tractor is also my mowing machine. I have never had a problem mowing with the 2320.

If the main use for your tractor is mowing and the tractor is good at it. Why change it? I read some where: "the tractor works great 90% of the time and 10% of the time I wish it was larger.......then the tractor is sized correctly."

Get a test on your property with a 2720 first. I bet you won't notice enough of a difference to justify 9 or 12k. Then again its a tax write off for your business and you get warranty, but that's a whole different discussion.

The 3000 series is as good mowing as a 2000 series. Honestly, if you take a good look at a 2720 beside a 3320, there is not much difference in overall footprint size, either on the lawn or in the garage. The 2720 sits lower which makes it look smaller. It is lighter--by a lot. This is not necessarily a good thing. Like yelbike said, I am not going to try to talk you out of something that you have an eye on, but I will tell you my experience (and that of others) is that the 2720 is worth worth the cost upgrade over what you have now--even getting a better deal. If you are anything like me, if you do get it, it seems much better at first, then some better with 100 hours on it, then a little better with 200 hours on it, then no better at all with 300 hours on it. I am trying to save you 300 hours, and several thousand dollars. A 3320 with a 72" mower deck would do a very nice job on your lawn. I have seen the cut quality and it rivals an X series in quality of cut.

If you look at the comparison, you have a 2720 on the left and a 3720 on the right. you gain very slight ground clearance, in fact it's almost the same, but you gain a lot more everywhere else. The actual size difference of a 3x20 series over a 2x20 series is actually very small. I would say anywhere you can fit a 2720, you should be able to fit a 3x20 as well.

Look at the additional room at the operators station, way more comfortable then a 2720 where, if your a big guy, your kind of cramped.

The bigger tires on the 3720 more then offset it's additional weight, so I wouldn't worry about that. I have seen people lift 2,000 pounds with this machine, it can only lift it about 1 ft in the air, but still. I think lift capacity for a 300CX loader is around 1,600 pounds at full height, which is about 600 more pounds then the 200CX if I remember correctly.

Drive over decks can also be purchased for the 3x20 series, so this machine would mow just as nice as a 2720 would.

The other nice thing is John Deere offers a factory 3rd valve option if you want to operate a grapple or front blade in the future.

Overall, if I were you, I would get a X530/X540, or a X748 for mowing, and step into a 3320.

I agree somewhat, but i've had a 2520 and now the 3320. The 2520 was way easier to get in small spaces. I use pallets alot and the 2520 could manuever things into the weirdest places and angles i can no longer do.

If you don't need the additional lift capacity, i'd stay 2720 personally. Its amazing how much less room they take up just sitting in the garage.

Do they offer a factory 3rd valve now for the 2520/2720? That would be a big improvement if they do.

One thing I am really hoping for, a self leveling 300CX loader would be very nice. That 400CX loader is the only reason I contemplate a 4x20 series machine.

I have a 2520 and it is a very compelling package. Stronger than it should be, small enough to get into tight places and stable enough to deal with the slopes. The only thing I wish that I had was a couple of extra HP at the PTO for the chipper and genset but the honestly I couldn't be happier with this size tractor. If I could go back, I would probably spend the extra $2k and get the 2720.
