I have a bank along the road and last year a new weed appeared. I have been able to find out that it is Russian Hog Weed. I have had no success in killing it and it is speading into my meadow. The only success I have had is using the Bush Hog on the Bank and the infected area of the meadow.

This stuff is murder, I cut and it grows back a foot tall in a week. Does anyone out there have a way of killing this stuff. I have tried the usual weed killers and they don't seem to do much.

From what I am told, this is not what I want around childern and pets. I need some help or this weed is going to take over my open land.

Mix almost 1 pound of salt into a gallon of brown vinegar, and try using that as a weed killer. It will kill most anything, and doesn't ruin the ground.
Be sure to thoroughly rinse the sprayer afterwards this stuff will also corrode metal.

Tim,
Check with your state department of agriculture. In western PA, they will come out and try to kill the Hog weed. It is relatively new here, and they want to eradicte it. It is tough to kill, and spreads fast. The plant will cause severe skin irritation. There was an article about it in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette on June 26, 2000 about it. You can find it at www.postgazette.com. I searched for "hogweed" and found it.
