Tractor
Mahindra 3525
Anybody have any ideals on how to unstuck a 4300 lb tractor beside digging her out! That's plain oh work and lots of it. I was clearing a parking pad in the back yard to be used as a temporary shelter for the tractor and implements. I have a 12' x 24' tarp strung up over the pad to shield the equipment from the rain. And i was using a box blade to haul dirt from the bottom of my sloping yard to the pad to build it up..and i was making my last load for the night when i approached from the wrong direction and managed to get the tractor stuck in the soft dirt. Wish i had a digital camera to show you on what not to do with a heavy tractor. Oh well i'll start digging tomorrow after work. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

do you have a loader? I have heard of people clamshelling themselves out with a loader. I think you just put the bucket in full dump position and then lower till you have some pressure on the ground, then rotate bucket to push backwards. I guess you might be able to do the opposite to go the other direction.

No i don't have a loader or a friend with a bigger tractor...it looks like i'll have to dig her out. A friend told me how to "jump" it out of a hole by chaining a log or a board around the back tires to lift it out of the hole. Anybody ever heard of doing this and is it safe?

i would atleast try pulling with a truck while backing tractor at the same time before i started digging.

It is ok to do strap stuff on going backwards, if you try to go forward it can flip it. I wouldn't do it, too much to go wrong.

Are there any trees around? If yes get a good come along and pull'er out. If one dosn't do it, use 2 with snatch blocks onto 2 different trees. If no trees get a tractor jack and some 2x12s. Jack a corner of the tractor up at a time, fill in under the tire, then put the would under it.

The tractor jacks are $40 or so from Harbor Freight and will lift from a couple inchs to 3ft. Oh, be safe when usind a jack. Don't want to hear about you get'n squished.

I used to get my 8N stuck all the time, but it was a few thousand pounds less. First thing is turn off the motor. My 8N would shake a little. That would turn the 'dirt' to quick sand. The first time I used the comealong for about 10ft before I figured the dirn thang was still on the axel. Next winch fairly close and from up as high as possible. Better to pull up and out. Also, pull down hill.

<< friend told me how to "jump" it out of a hole by chaining a log or a board around the back tires to lift it out of the hole>>

I have done that before. Depending on the size of the tractor that is stuck, we have used from a 4X4 timber up to a railroad cross tie. basically you chain the timber to the front of each wheel under the belly of the tractor. you then VERY SLOWLY ease the tractor out of the hole. Usually the drawbar gets in the way once the tractor rolls over the timber BUT it is possible for the timber to climb all the way up and squish the operator if he is not paying attention. If you are just in a hole and not in a large wet area, it works pretty good. But like I say... pay attention and be alert and work very slowly.

I was going to mention the same thing but be very careful. Put it in the lowest range , first gear and precede slowly as it could be a very dangerous move. The tractor could come right over on its back !! You will find treads talking about doing this to get a tractor unstuck.

This should at least bring your rear wheels up out of the ground.

Good luck

Well i went and brought a 2 ton come-a-long from Home Depot on the way home from work and some chains. I don't feel comfortable yet with the ideal of "jumping" the tractor out of the hole with all the "Squish" terms being used in the replies. Anyway i used a Chainsaw to clear a path big enough to drive the tractor through the brush on the downhill side of the hole. I dug around the tires and would winch the tractor some until i could get no more slack and then crank the tractor and move what i could fwd and then repeat the process. I was making some headway when the come-a-long broke (the round plate on the opposite side of the gears) and that was it pretty much for the night. Too wore out and frustrated for any more fun /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif I will try again on Thursday (church tomorrow) by the way Monday night was prayer meeting at my church and i chose to skip it to work on the parking pad when all this happen. "It pays to pray" I'm in the hole (no pun intended /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif ) for a $120.00 in equipment and a stuck tractor still.
