The tachometer cable on my YM226 bolts to a small fitting on the front of the engine block. The fitting is right next to the fan belt and appears to be held on with two bolts
This fitting is leaking oil almost continuously near the lower bolt once the tractor is warm. How do I fix this oil leak and is there anything I need to look out for???

Thanks,

If one of the dealers here doesn't jump in before tommorrow I will look for a partnumber for you. I am sure there is just an O-ring or seal in there. Have a 226d myself, sure a nice tractor.

Take it apart and eyeball it. Got to be an O-ring that you can pick up anywhere or a gasket that you can make with a piece of gasket paper and a ball peen hammer.

Looks like there is just an O-ring in there, showing Yanmar part number 24341-000260 what is a 26 mm O-ring, should be able to find one local, specially if you bring the old one so they can measure the thickness26 mm is pretty darn close to 1 inch, what will increase your chances.Shows just 2 nuts with lockwashers to take the tach adapter off.

I think 25.4 mm is an inch. Youa re dead on right that should be close enough!! Hope it goes well

Please explain how you make a gasket using a ball peen hammer? I have never heard of this process.

Purchase gasket material from any autoparts store. Cut off a piece a little larger than the gasket. Place the paper over either mating surface that it will fit over, and tap around the edges of the paper with the hammer, inside and out, including holes, until you have outlined the entire gasket. The hammer will cut some of the material away, what it does not, you can remove with exacto knife, box cutter or scissors. Works great, I have made dozens that way over the years for thermostats, waterpumps, carbs, etc.

Ditto what Norme says.

When you hapmmer the paper.. don't hit hard.. just tap-tap-tap around the edge. that is the key.. get the edge to act as a knife.

I've made dozens of gaskets for my old ford and JD tractors this way.

In the old days you heard people say soapbox.. etc.. and literally they used the non corugated, waxed thin cardboard from soap ( detergent powder ) boxes for gaskets. Cerial boxes and shoe boxes work inthe same manner... etc.

Well I took the fitting off the YM226 and surprise.......it looks like a loose fan belt wore a small hole in the wall of the fitting. I could see the worm gear inside the fitting through the hole.
I put some hi-temp permatex on the hole and surrounding area.
Anyone have a clue if permatex will hold or is there anything better to seal the hole? Also if anyone has a part number for this tachometer fitting, I would appreciate it. Thanks,
