This might qualify as the laugh of the week but.....
I dicided that since it is Sunday I WOULD COOK breakfast:thumbsup:
I put eggs in a pan and semi fried them. Then I put them in the oven (still in pan) to cook the tops, (every time I try to flip them they break and the yolks get ugly) I rotate the knob on the oven dial thing to broil but instead of rotating RIGHT.....I rotated LEFT. It passes the CLEAN position.
CLICK....oven door LOCKED :mad: I tugged on the door a few seconds and brilliant that I am I quickly went to the breaker box and tripped the breaker so the oven would not go to 1200 degrees. I figured that this would release the electro-magnetic door lock. NOPE. An hour and a bowl of cerial later ....the door is still locked.
IDEAS???? it is an AMANA, "Big Oven model" with the ceramic top. (I thought I could pull up the top and find a solinoid.....the top will not lift:mad:)
Anyone been held hostage by an oven before?:confused2:

Had that happen with a oven years ago, there is a reset procedure. I would call tech support after setting all dials to off and restoring power.

Don't break it or take it apart.
I don't know about your model oven, but the oven I have remains locked for a period of time after cleaning, then will release.
Try looking up the owner's manual online if you don't have the original.

zI agree just set to off and wait.. youll loose the food but not much you can do.. It should reset itself..
And head out to a dinner

Sorry about your eggs and over...In the future if you want the tops of your eggs cooked without trying to turn them over just have a lid for your frying pan and when the bottoms of your eggs..the whites, have cooked add 2 or 3 tablespoons of water to the pan and cover the pan for about 20 or 30 seconds...the steam will baste your eggs on top but they yolks will still be runny...leave the lid on longer if you want the yolks cooked. :licking:

Hostage standoff ended peacefully:D
I was able to see the metal lever holding the door closed and put a straightblade screwdriver thru....prying it back to release the door. Ruined food removed I then closed the door and reset the breaker.
"Snap" the door release opened.....
I had already done this as your recommendations were coming in. One of which was to select off on everything and reset breaker.....:confused2: Certainly that would work...

I use a lid smaller than the skillet and set it over the eggs while cooking, accomplishes the same thing without having to add water.


I was thinking when I read the heading " Probably turned the oven to clean and cremeated dinner."
