I MOW AND WILL CONTINUE TO MY LAWN IS 2.0 ACRE BUT A HILL SIDE NOT EXTREME BUT AN INCLINE NOT A TON OF OBSTACLES A FEW ROLLING AREAS SOIL SOMETIMES SOFT IN AN AREA WERE 2520 LEAVES IMPRESSIONS BUT IF I LEAVE 3120 UN LOADED TIRES AND NO LOADER WHILE MOWING WEIGHT IS ABOUT THE SAME IF NOT LIGHTER MY CONCERNS ARE TIPPY SCALPING AND LAWN DAMAGE. I AM HAPPY WITH 2520 BUT WOULD LIKE 3000 SERIES FOR TRACTOR TASKS AND LIKE I SAID THE PRICE IS RIGHT. WHAT'S YOUR OPINION WOULD I BE MAKING A MISTAKE??

Welcome to TBN! I'd never, never tell anyone to back away from a bigger tractor -- especially if the PRICE WAS RIGHT! :D

(You might also get some better detailed opinions if you post your question on the John Deere forum, too.)

Good luck.

Welocme to TBN there are lots of discussions between the 2000 and 3000 series tractors. As long as you have enough ballast and wheel spacing you should be okay. From what I have read here on TBN the 3x20 series have the most issues with slopes, this has been corrected for most of the guys with wheel spacers. Other than that the large rolling diameter wheels on the 3120 should balance out the wheel imprint issues.

I would get those rear tires filled...they help a lot with stability on a slope. The tractor shouldn't damage your lawn (it'll leave tread marks in the grass, but the grass recovers pretty quickly) as long as your tires don't spin (filled ties reduce spinning) and you stay out of MFWD. Try to minimize sharp turns too and don't mow when the lawn is wet.
This also depends on what kind of tires are mounted on that 3120. Ags...well, no lawn mowing with ag tires. R-3s (turf) are the best, but R-4's aren't too bad on the lawn (except for the temporary tire marks noted above).
So, if the price is right, go for the 3120.
