Comparison Help Wanted Needed, a Tractor

I am a disabled vet. recent claimed bankrupsty. Physically strong, bad nerves. Now i am free of all debt. Good income, bad credit in a bad economy. I need a tractor to landscape my land, and level and grade my 1 mile road leading to my home. And to be able to maintain it year after year.

I seek a owner Finaced purchase, with good faith. Or a loan with my credit history based on my income ratio now.

And I need a heavy duty blade to dig thru the packed road way and move dirt. I would love to have a front end loader too. I am partial to Ford tractors i have had a 8N. sold when I moved here to put a down payment on the house. Had no way to relocate it either and no money at the time. That was stupd. PS Do I sound crazy? I figure you don't know if you don't ask. I figure I could afford $200+ a month easily, maybe more, just depends. AT the least, I need a older model tractor that would serve my blading road needs, for a digger type blade. Box blade I guess you call it with teeth. Got one from Tractor supply for my old 8N and it wore out the first fes seasons of grading.
ohyeah, not particular about the brand, just its functionality.

I also have looked at a 860 ford tractor. rebuilt for $3,000 but didn't think it had enough hydrolics to work the rear blade I eventually want to get. it was to old. But would still make a good starter tractor I think. Still looking.

Think it's a good idea to take out a loan so soon after defaulting on a bunch of them? Maybe make an offer on a broken one to fix up or trade for work or something.

ps I guess I shouldn't assume you defaulted on loans, lot's of things happen.. no offence intended.

I can't help on the tractor, only offer encouragement. I had friends go through something like this due to health issues and it really is hard. Like many things in life, time seems to help more than anything.

Since you seem to have decent income, you might want to consider renting until something comes up.

Our first tractor after we got out of farming was an $1800 Ford NAA. It wasn't ideal, but it got us by until we could afford better ones and my brother still uses it.

Thank you to those who have written. No offense taken. As they say sh__ happens. Being a disabled vet with nervous condition and a seizure disorder, and severe depression, service connected, USMC. I have had difficulty manageing my affairs. I asked anyone and everyone to help me. VA, Diabled American Vets, and all other veteren organizations. No one had the time or any ideas to helpme. I could not afford to pay a attorney or a money mangement company. I struggle for over a year to correct things to no availe. When I got got suicical, I decided to get it over with by filing bankrupsty instead of sucide. I think I did the right thing. Thanks Ervin Smith Oh yeah, I spent a week in the hospital to get my head straight again.

I had to stop working it got so bad, sold my $200,000 home right before the crash in the economy, and went to a $65,000 trailer with some acreages. Up by st.Louis. Its definately been a adjustment. Its was run down, and in bad needs of repair, Since i was a contractor and handyman, I thought I could do all the work. Went in debt trying to fix it up and got in over my head. Just so you know. Unfortunaltely the road leading to my home is tearing my car up. Take a long time to drive a mile at 5 to 10 mph. I am so fed up with the road, and so desparately wanting to do something about it. Thats why I am looking for help getting a tractor.

Any old thing would do really as long as its capable of pulling a blade big enough to do the job without tearing up the tractor in theprocess. if you see what i mean. I figure at least 50 horse. The 8n, the neighbor uses on it, broke down and just would not dig into the road enough to do much good. Filled in hte big hole with gravel, but they came back in a week or so. Its needs to be done correctly to last any time. I figure they need worked out first, the level the road way. then haul in some gravel. Need a good enough tractor to do that with. And box cutter blade that digs and not just scraps the surface.
Thanks again for listening, I hope someone reads this who has a old tractor with cutting blade I can buy soon in installments type payments. The least expensive the sooner I can get it paid for..

Maybe what we need here is: instead of a tractor .. is a good samaritan to come help you out with that road?

Now how to go about getting that going I don't know?? How about posting help wanted ad at local Tractor Supply Store, Or call a Local Community Church and see if you can't find some help there. Local Tractor Dealership .... Possibly would have a demo day or something using your road as setting?? ...

Any other ideas out there??

Ervin, like I said, one of my brothers uses a Ford NAA and the other uses a Ford 600 with box blade for road and driveway maintenance. We paid $1800 for the NAA about twenty years a ago and they now run about the same or a little more. Craigslist shows some Ford 3000 Series for three to five thousand dollars.

You indicate you have a good income, so it should not take long to save up enough money for a starter tractor. In the interim, get to know your neighbors and you would be surprised at how helpful country folk can be. I use to help my neighbors out, but now they have all gone out and bought their own tractors, we have two new Kubotas added just this winter.

The men who farm our land would do all of my tractor work if I asked, but I like to do as much of my own stuff as possible.

I certainly know how frustrating the VA can be as I have had friends go through the same thing. They are fairly good about regular medical stuff and medication, but for anything else it can be problematic. My son served in the Navy on a Small Boat Raid Team and then in the Army with the 82nd Airborne before he was injured and had to take a medical discharge, he had planned on retiring from there, but you know how that goes.

I think TripleR's rental idea was a good one. A mile of road in bad shape could probably use more machine than you want to buy for around the house chores.

an 860 was exactly what I was going to suggest.

it has enough hyd capacity to lift over 1000# ont he rear hitch.. plenty enough to turn even a HD box blade into yard art if push comes to shove. an 860 is about 45 hp, and you can add remotes to it's top cover very easilly.. 4 bolt job and some orings.. can run a small to medium dutry loader off internal hyds ( 4gpm ).. single remotes go for about 150$ and dual remotes for about 300$ online .. just look around. I use an 850 to move round hay bales at my farm... the 00/01 series fords are VERY easy to work on and get parts for.

3000$ for a good 860 with renewed parts is a decent deal.

I'd be glad to answer questions you might have about the 39-64 eara fords... I have some experience with the 65+ models.. but not nearly as much as the older ones.. specificaly the 53-64 units..
