Hey Folks,

I am new to tractors and this is my first year doing hay. On the haybine the PTO shaft is supported by this bracket (see picture). It was broken when I bought the equipment and have searched every thing possible from support brackets, pto holder, extensions, etc and can't find anything close. Is this an actual piece or does this look home made? It holds the pto shaft higher and supports it, looks like it spins in the bearing looking piece that broke in half.

If someone can provide any insight or a work around I would greatly appreciate it. I'm hoping to mow in 4 days but can't until I remedy this problem.

Thank you for any help.

Randy

To me, it doesn't look like an OEM piece, but rather something fabricated for that particular machine. It might have been a good idea based on the PTO location on the previous tractor, but other than creating a cradle to make the hook up a little easier, I don't see the need to replace the bearing, and have a new one fabricated.

I'd remove the top bracket completely, then hook it up to your tractor, and engage the PTO at idle and observe the movement of the driveshaft. Ramp up the RPM's slowly and see if any stress is exerted on the driveshaft (excess shimmy, vibration, U-joint rattle, etc)

If the U-joint is loose, you might want to invest in a new driveshaft.

Just my 2¢.

Try looking at pillow block bearings. You may need yo make a flat mounting base to bolt the bearing to where the round base is mounted now.
Many styles and sizes can be found at bearing supply companies or a place such as Granger.

That is a factory support bearing,
it acts much the same way of a carrier bearing on a driveshaft.
The short driven pto shaft is designed to turn with the tractor with the pivots equal distance from the drawbar hitch point to the front pto ujoint and the second ujoint.

In picture 3 just look in the backgound and you well see what goes there. I would not run without it you might hurt.

I agree - the background picture is the haybine with the same carrier bearing showing and the picture of the bad carrier bearing is the hay baler with the pickup tines in the background.

With your machine model number you should be able to find a replacement part. If the bearing is still good, you could get a welding/machine shop to fab a carrier potentially too.

It is a support for shaft, yes you need it,it is a crucial support for stabilizing shaft as others mentioned..... Yes the cast housing for bearing is broken, but crucial part is that bearing is in good working order the support for bearing can probably be fab'ed up from most anything if factory replacement is not available... A steel saddle for outer part of bearing with big strap over top comes to mind, should not be two difficult if you have welder or have friend with welder....

Guys,

Thanks for the input. Where would I look for something similar to replace it? Would that be a bearing shop or would any box or tractor stores carry something like this. I did run it at idle just laying on the bracket.....it spins and works fine but under movement I'm sure it would fall. Want to keep things safe and in working order. Point me to some sources and I'll see if I can't get it replaced soon, just have no idea where to look for this type piece.....its at least 25 years old.

Thanks

What model baler is it? The red makes me think it is an IH.

In picture #3 the implements appear to be red and the tongues and pto shafts a mixture of red and green. This puzzles me.
