BX25D soon hopefully
I'm looking at a local dealership that has a brand new 2013 BX25D. It comes with 60" mower, 3pt hitch, fel, backhoe and I believe 8" bucket. I am looking to finance with the 60 month 0% interest. Our tax is 8%. They are quoting payments of $368 a month. That would mean the out the door tax price is $22100. That puts the tractor with the options listed right at $20,400.

I know looking on Kubota.com the sames tractor with same options listed for $22,495. Looks like about 10% below list. Is this a good price? I have only been emailing back and forth with the dealer as of right now.

I plan to put a little down to get the payments lower but I'm holding onto that card until the last minute if necessary for negotiations.

Thanks,

Kevin

I just bought a 2360, it is last year model, 60" midmower with FEL I got it for 250 a month. Wished it was a 25D, but more than I need. I was going to make a down payment but it is free money so decided to hold on to the cash for now. Oh I forgot the Woods Box scrapper.

That looks a little high and the 8% pushes it back up. You may want to contact Barlows to get a price to your door. No Ky sales tax for tractors going out of state. Tractors don't have titles like cars to register into your state system.;)
Your cash to add to the pot has no value to the dealer. The new tractors belong to Kubota and the dealer gets all above the price they quote him so he/she gets all of their money the same cash or financed. Borrow it all at 0% if you owe any place that's charging interest and pay them off because the cash bonus only applies if you pay the total ticket.

I contacted Barlows and they have a better price even after delivery charges. My question is, are tractors like cars? Meaning, if I buy a Kubota and something breaks, do I need to take it back to the original dealer, or any authorized dealer? My local dealers keeps mentioning buying local to where the tractor will be used for service. Are they just trying to get me to purchase from them, or is there something to it? I know buying at my local dealer 4 miles down the road is probably the best idea, but when I can save over $1000 buying elsewhere, is it really worth it? I would rather take that $1k and go to my local dealer and purchase some accessories for the new tractor to help build a relationship with them :).

Any input is appreciated,

Kevin

Theoretically you can get service at any Kubota dealer. Where your service will fall on their priorities is another story. I paid more and bought local but that's just me. I can see you going either way. If you do buy long distance check everything carefully because your local guy isn't going to take too kindly to correcting someone else's inadequate prep work.

That is kind of what I figured. My new quote is $19975 delivered to my door. The local dealer wants $22100 and that's without the backhoe thumb!! They quoted me another $350 for that. So local dealer wants $22450. I know a good portion of that is the 8% tax ($1632) but ****, that's $2475 cheaper. Decisions decisions....

Decision???? $2475 more for a new tractor that will probably not need any work done on it for years other than changing fluids and filters which can be done by almost anyone. If a small problem comes up and your local dealer doesn't want the Warranty money from Kubota then another near by dealer may plus maybe will want your future business purchases of fluids, filters and implements and maybe even another tractor. People from all over the USA buy from Barlows and they continue to trade and buy from Barlows. They will also send you any warranty part for free if something goes wrong while under warranty, just like Messicks does. I've bought 15 from Barlows and have never had but one issue where I returned the tractor for warranty work. I have picked up a couple of warranty items which they gave me. A newq front tire on a BX that wouldn't hold air and a fuel lid that was missing the rubber ring. Finally, the dealer is a Franchise Dealer who has to do Warranty work for Kubota so if the Franchised dealer does not cover warranty you can contact Kubota regional rep and there is more different pressures that can be put on a local dealer by Kubota than most people realize. Bottom line, your dealer (all dealers) get the same equipment for the same price from Kubota and the dealer gets to decide how much they love you in dollars. Your dealer doesn't love you very much, it seems.
Finally, as stated before. These ain't Fords or Chevys that require those first few months to get everything right. I'd buy from your dealer if he would bring me one for a thousand dollars less than Barlows and feel confidant about the machine and maybe believe that Barlows would never let another dealer sell me one cheaper than him again.

So your local dealer is really only $843 off from Barlows best price. And you could maybe do a bit more haggling with your local dealer. But due to the fact that your local dealer has to charge you sales tax, and Barlows doesn't, makes the final difference significant. I can certainly see why you might want to go with Barlows for that kind of difference.

I have to say that this really has to suck for local businesses, and I can kind of understand why some businesses support Congress in changing internet tax law...

Here is the final deal that I placed with a dealer about 1 hour away from me:

2013 Kubota BX25D w/ FEL and backhoe
12” backhoe bucket
60" Kubota mowing deck
Quick release FEL bucket
Backhoe thumb
3pt hitch
R4 tires
Extra set of wheels with turf tires installed
$20350 delivered

I think I did pretty good!

Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions!

I think you did REALLY good. If more buyers would shop around I think it would bring the local higher priced dealers prices down. I've seen some on here excited that they got one local for ONLY $1000 MORE than Barlows would deliver one to them. Those attitudes will keep local prices up and ALL Franchise dealers pay the same price for the new tractor WHEN they sell it. If they were more prone to tear up and need early warranty service it would be a different story. When they go off warranty any/all tractor repair shop(s) should be wanting your business. Especially those smaller dealers that don't sell a lot of tractors.
