Hi guys and gals, I need some help with a used new to me shaver post pounder.

1. how do you connect the return line to my jd 2155? It has a rubber return line that measures 1.5 inches, which I think its suppose to be 1 inch. But don't know how they want me to hook it up, Is it suppose to stick in the fill post? or is there another port I should stick it on.? Or is there a fitting that screws into the fill cap?

2. I hooked it up ran the tractor without the return line hooked up and it had sum fluid coming out the return line without the valve being touched is this normal I would think it is but when I moved the lever eitherway the pounder didn't move just more fluid came out of return line. any ideas? Maybe I need to have the return line plumbed in before I come to any conclusions? Help!!!!

Is your Shaver valve set up for open center or closed center hydraulics? You need it to be closed center.

Connect the return to the tractor's hyd fill tube however it can be accomplished.

RickB not sure how to tell if its set up for open center or closed center hydraulics. How do I tell?

I did look online and they show operators manual and they said to hook the 1 inch reurn line to the return port. But I am wondering why there is a 1.5 inch return hose?

If I adapt that 1.5 inch to a pioneer adapter and plug it in will that work or will it damage something

Use a full flow connection, not a quick coupler. It is a used machine, obviously somebody put a larger return hose on perhaps because it was available when they needed a replacement. Why is unimportant. The valve parts breakdown will call out an open center plug and a closed center plug and where they would be in the valve body. You have either one or the other. Find out which you have, if it is the open center plug, buy the closed center plug.

Make sure the locking pin is removed at the bottom of the pounder "hammer". For transport, you are supposed to install the pin. Remove it to lift the pounder ram.
The larger return line is good, you just need to find a way to return it to the hydraulic reservoir. On my tractor I ran the return to the Hydraulic reservoir fill port.

Also, you may have to cycle the valve several times to fill the line and cylinder with fluid.

RickB I do not see the valve I have, I did pull one plug that I think determines weither its open or closed and the plug is just flat. I am not sure which I should have but my manual for my tractor says its a closed center system. A bit confused on the valve and the system I need. I did check to see if the road pin was installed and its not.
