I have included some pictures of a backhoe / loader that I made from a 1250 cub cadet. The pump that I installed to run the system puts out 2500 PSI continuous but can spike to 3000 PSI. I have already broke a piston in the bucket cylinder, blew the end off of a 3000 PSI hose and cracked the power steering valve. The power steeering came off of a older Deere combine. After doing some research I believe the power steering valve is only rated for 2000 PSI max. I have included a picture before I installed it. I have also included a picture of how I mounted the pump. I think what I want to do is regulate the system to around 1800 PSI so that I stop tearing stuff up. The right side of the pump is the presure side. Would I want to put the relief valve right out of the pump? What would be the best valve for this application? I found a few that are adjustable for around $30.00. Any advice on this would be great. Andy

Hi Andy,
If you want to regulate the whole system then you can add a relief valve right at the high pressure outlet of the pump. Surplus Center sells several kinds and you need to match up with your hose size and also the pump flow (gpm). Here's one that I mounted on my wife's Jinma right after the pump.
16 GPM 1/2" NPT PRINCE RD1850H RELIEF VALVE
Note that it is a 16gpm one and you may need a little larger one? I also added a gauge right after the relief valve to accurately set the pressure for the system. Here is a link to their gauges. Get one to read in the range you want. I set my system to 2250psi. You can the set each valve in the system if they have their own pressure relief valve such as the loader valve with the same gauge. I set the loader valve to 2200psi and the other valves at 2000psi
Liquid Filled Pressure Gauges
Here are some photos of my installation on the tractor. I made a little bracket to hold the relief valve and used QD's to connect the pressurized and return to tank lines.

My pump only puts out 8 GPM so that valve will work.
Thanks, Andy

Having the relief right at the pump is also great if anything uses QD connectors down the line.. as.. if they come apart. the pump deadheads.. having relief right at the pump saves the pump.. ( ask a jinma tractor owner about this! )
