Hey does anyone know if the 2000-2001 Honda Civics have a fuel cut off switch under the front bumper? OR maybe some place on line where I can look it up...My wife popped an ol f150 in the bumper recently and now after running a few days it won't start.

I know several folks with other cars that have had this happen. and it was just a matter of resetting this switch. I'd like to try that 1st if I can. Rather than taking it straight to a shop...

I still plan to have it checked Out but I'd rather not tow it... and find out that it was something so simple... /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I don't know about the Honda's, but on Ford products the fuel cut-off activates immediately on impact, and has to be reset before you can start it after the collision. I would assume that the Honda's are designed the same way, since the cut offs are supposed to stop any fuel flow after an accident to reduce the risk of fire. You might look for a wire that was jarred loose from a connector somewhere in the starting circuit. Of course with all the interconnection of everything through the computer, it could be almost any wire.

Good Luck

On the Ford's the switch is in the trunk, at least on my Taurus.

Honda doesn't use an inertia switch like Ford, they use an ignition comfirmation signal. At least the pre- '98 Hondas, anyway. That means the computer won't trigger the fuel pump relay if it doesn't see a signal from the distributor showing that the engine is running.

I understand that the switch is supposed to cut fuel on impact, but I have known several folks that had low speed impacts (15mph or so). Where the switch for what ever reason did not fully ingage at impact. While I understand this defies logic but reseting the switch was all they did and the vehicle started.

The one that comes to mind is friends explorer. His wife had hit someone at low speed and caused no apparrant damage, to either auto. But 3 days later she hit a bump and the truck died... All he did was reset the fuel cut off on the advice of a buddy and it started right up....

It may be whishfull thinking on my part but it's an easy place to start....

While I did not find out about a cutt off switch... I new it had to be something simple. BAsed on the way the car was acting. It was trying to start put just couldn't quite make it.

With help from my partner John next door... 1st we checked the system with his lil computer code reading DO-HICKY (pard-don the fancy tech term /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) The do-hicky found no codes, so at least we didn't need to fret the computer or sensor's. Disconnecting the battery to reset the system to default...

Then we made sure it had fuel under pressure to the injectors...
Next we checked for spark by sticking a screwdriver (now kid ya'll don't try this at home /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif ) into the pulg connection and holding it near a bolt to see the spark to ground and it was nice and strong...

So just out of curriosity we we pulled a plug..... /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
The plug was toast... Looked like it had been run rough shod in a 2stroke...

So we cleaned it and put back and WHOA and BEHOLd it startedthough running very rough.....

So I ran (ok, I took the pickup) and picked up the new plugs.
Now the little Civic perrssssssss.....

Now I get to digg up the 5digit code or get the serial # off the radio and go tot the dealer to get one beforer the radio will work.................

The joy the fun..... the sketers making me jig.... /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
