I have sold my Dad's 335!!! As I have mentioned briefly in previous posts, I bought my father a 335 garden tractor last year for Father's Day. It is an excellent machine; but I did not enjoy using it that much when I would go help my parents on their property (too big a drop from the 3720). My father liked the tractor (he is an easy man to please, generally) but was not enamoured with it. One of our office staff wanted the 335, so I sold it to them. I know my father will not mind (he currently does not know I sold his mower from under him). Now, the question is what to replace it with? I feel my father would like the X series and my dealer has an X 465 for sale for $6,600. (Used with 25 hours). He also quoted me $8450 for a 485 with 54" deck (new). Although I had a 595 before, I have not priced a diesel. I have not priced a 2210. For me to sell my father's existing 335, I will need to replace with an upgrade. Primarily, my father has about two acres of finish mowing at his primary residence, and about one acre of hilly terrain at his second cabin, which is not yet completed. He claims to be a "gentleman farmer" but really mainly mows with the machine. I think he would also like to move snow in the winter, but where my folks live, they get very little snow. A few inches one-two times yearly is the rule. My question is this: The 465 is a trade in and not eligible for the JD programs currently offered. The 485 would be a nice machine, and although I can buy a machine outright, I would like to take advantage of any good incentives. The 495 diesel would clearly be overkill, but I love a diesel and think my Dad would too. The reality of this is with my Dad being in his mid seventies, this machine would likely outlive his ability to use it, so I want a machine my mother or I could easily use (I help him now) if my father were no longer able. I also want a machine with good resale, if needed, down the road. Finally, I thought of a MFWD X or a 2210, but these are way too much for Dad's needs, in my opinion. Also, I have considered a dedicated mower, such as a Z trak, but I am not sure my father is coordinated enough to use it well. He ran my Gravely ZTR into a tree trying to use it a couple years ago. I suppose I should have put this in the "lawn and garden" section, but old habits die hard; please accept apologies. Everyone's thoughts are much appreciated.
