Hi gang, so I am new to this and just picked up a 2007 JM 284 with a HW03 BH.

The former owner was not clear on the correct way to set the 3pt-h when operating the bh and the 2 lower bars twisted. He did some straightening and reinforcing but they clearly need to be replaced.
There is a short 18"-24" horizontal bar pinned below and he thought that it played a role in where it was positioned during bh operation but he could not recall. I don't want to make a repeat of this damage once I replace the bars, If anyone can lend me some advice it would be greatly appreciated.
:confused2:

Chris, I'm in MA and have a frame mounted HW04 hoe. I probably can't help you with your 3 point but maybe I can be of help on future items. My Jinma is also a 2007 "284". I bought it new and have almost 400 trouble free hours on it.

Yes, that added bar is used as part of the installation. The lower arms and the toplink form a moving parallelagram. I am guessing that bar will fit from the top of one side(tractor or BH) to the bottom of the other side to form a triangle. You lift it into place with the 3PH, then fit that diagonal bar to lock it in place.

The bent arms are a great example of why a 3PH BH can have issues. The BH has tremendous power, and the 3PH arms are the weak link in the system... If I were you I would seek out a dealer who imports the HW-03 and see if they can get you a subframe to mount it to. If you can work with metal/weld, it would also be a fairly easy thing to make yourself. That is really the proper way to attach it to the tractor...

If you google "jinma 3PH backhoe" or something to that effect, you should be able to find a picture of the 3PH setup with the diagonal bar.

My HW04X is now off for the winter. It would be easy to copy.

Welcome to the Forum! I made the same error in ordering a 3ph, however my arms are fine and have had no issues with the 3ph. Read as much as you can on using any 3 point accessory on your tractor. These are not utility/construction tractors. You can break the casting for the transmission if you use it like most commercial backhoes are used. Always pay attention to the load the hoe is putting on your machine. I treat my BH as if it is independent of the tractor.

I really appreciate the advice and suggestions; I have seen many posts regarding going to a sub frame, if anyone has this and can send me a photo that would be great. I am a little muddy how this is made and how it attaches in place of the 3pt-h?

Well I'm curious. The only way I can see bending the lift arms on a three-point hitch setup is to be pulling full force at 90 degrees from the tractor, and have the relief valve malfunction. Even then, common sense will tell you to stop because you're dragging the tractor sideways or about to tip it over.

I sure would like to see a pic of your set up.

You should have two adjustable links that resemble a large turnbuckle with clevis ends that came with the hoe. These are installed after the hoe is raised to the operating position between the hoe's foot rest and the forward eye in the lifting arms. This makes the set up very rigid. When properly set up the three-point hitch mount is very robust, and I surely wouldn't worry about breaking any gear cases - never heard of that happening. An unsupported claim I think.

Wow, those lift arms look really long, no wonder. At least 10" too long IMHO. Are those the lift arms that originally came with the tractor?
The sway links are set up properly but you are missing the rigid bar that pins into the lower top link hole. This keeps the unit from lifting.

Those arms look just like the ones on my 284...
