I need a mower and a buddy who has a barely used one with 15 hours offered it to me for 1,400.00 very honest and trustworthy guy, and a close personal friend, I am just not sure what the value is. any help appreciated. also any input about the suitability for my purpose would be appreciated. I have about 5-10 acres to mow every few weeks.

New sells for 2k. Probably not a bad price if you still have the second year of warranty left. Otherwise I would say it needs to come down some. Still an entry level mower though and not necc designed to mow that much ground for the long haul imao.

A D140 would take all day to cut 10 acres I'm guessing, you might wan't to get something wider and faster if it will work on your property. An x700 series garden tractor with 60" cut will mow about twice as fast if your ground is smooth, just depends on budget and what your time is worth. That is alot of yard to cut frequently imo, have you considered a rear finish mower for your tractor for the majority of the area? Then use the lawn mower for an area around the house.

The $1400 sounds like a fair price for the mower but cutting that much lawn will be tough on you and the mower.
