Kubota B2150
HELLO ALL: Frequent reader... Seldom poster... GREAT SITE!!! I'm in a tough situation and need some specific help. I'm without the key to my B-2150 (early 70's but pristine) and desperately to get it moved. Can you folks give me some specifics as to how to jumper it to fire it up and get it moving??? (ALSO... Don't want to trash anything, as the key may be found later)

I'm mechanically and electrically competent, and have tools and time available. Had this (possibly happening) in the back of my mind for years... but never found a locksmith that could duplicate the Kubota key, and I tried several. THANKS... I'M PRETTY DESPERATE, AND MORE THAN 500 MILES FROM WHERE THE KEY MAY BE!!!

Most tractor keys are not specific to the tractor but to the model of tractor.
They can be bought on Ebay or other places a quick search on the key for your model came up with many hits. Here is one 37410-55150 Kubota Key give it a try!

Good luck

Jeff

Sorry, I've got the service manual w/schematics for my L4330, but I doubt it has much similarity to yours. Will need to get power applied to the fuel solenoid and then to starter solenoid. Surely someone on here has more specifics about your model. I think it is Messick's (dealer that is very active on this board) that previously posted some service info for various models. If they are open today, may be worth trying to call them.

I have a B1550 which is of the same era of Kubota's. I lost my key and found that my 70's Toyota key had the same slots and would go into the keyway. By pushing it a little at a time, I found the spot that would allow it to turn and start the tractor. I then bought a key blank (Axxess blank # 41R) and started cutting on it until it was just the right length to go in and stop and then turn on the tractor. I did it by trial and error. Cut off just a little and see if it still had some more travel after turning the ignition. If it did, I shaved a bit more off the end.

If you have a place to buy the key blanks it may be worth a shot. You wouldn't have to cut it down if you don't mind fiddling with it each time.

Can't wait to get to a dealer for a B series key for that vintage? I used to have a B1750 about a '92 model. Perhaps I can help. The engine should crank and fire up if you touch a jumper wire from the positive battery post to the small wire terminal on the starter solenoid, which is mounted on the starter. I believe the engine is ready to start, and requires electricity to activate the stop solenoid to turn it off. I recall mine making a click a little while after stopping the engine. Apparently the stop solenoid stays activated for a short time after shutdown to ensure shutdown, then kicks out to keep the battery from draining. When the solenoid deactivates, the engine can be started by cranking,no electricty required except for cranking. My B1750 had a shutoff cable that could be used if the key stop didn't work. You'll have to turn it off with this cable,if you have that setup. If not,the stop will have to be manually activated,or run that jumper wire to the terminal on the stop solenoid from the battery positive post and held until the engine stops.
I know that's a terrible, complicated explanation. Simply, the jumper wire from battery to starter solenoid cranks the engine which should fire. And hopefully you have the stop cable to kill it. Good Luck

You will have to supply a feed to the heater plugs for 10-15 seconds first before you try starting.Make sure your tractor is out of gear get a 3foot lenght of wire connect this to positive side of the battery then touch the other end of the wire off the top of one of the heater plugs for the 15 secs, take it then to the small connection of the starter.Been starting b series for years like this.Even if it has an electric stop solenoid this only activates when the key is used.Hope this info will get you going.

SUCCESS... THANKS ALL!!! Made a jumper from some #12 auto wire I had around, with a ring terminal on one end and a 'gator clip on the other. I did find out that a little shot to the glow plugs is necessary before going to the small terminal on the starter solenoid. The lever on the stop solenoid is well marked and easy to throw manually when you're ready to shut down. The posts were correct in saying that nothing has to be done to it to start things up. Without this help, and just looking at the underhood layout, I would have initially thought that it might need power to effect a start. A great site comes through once again!!!

THANKS TO ALL WHO HELPED!!! BAILED ME OUT OF A TIGHT SPOT AND SAVED A LOT OF TIME AND AGGRAVATION...

NumerTwo alluded to this, but no one has come right out and said it. So here goes, based on what I have learned at TBN all B series keys are the same. You can buy one at any Kubota dealer or borrow one from another B series owner.
