help !!

hi all , I just bought my first Bolens tractor , model 855 its a G9 , the differential isn't locked up , but no matter what gear its in , one tire spins one way and the other tire spins the opposite , even in neutral , anyone have a clue whats wrong here , thanks , scott

I assume you are talking about when the tractor has the rear jacked up off the ground.

One wheel turning one way when you turn the other wheel the opposite direction is normal for an open differential. If the differential were locked it wouldn't happen.

yes lightnsound , thats correct , I didnt mention that part , my bad , but when I have the tractor on the ground and in nuetral it wont roll freely , one tire wants to spin backwards , maybe its stuck in gear ? I't feels like it shifts in and out of gear .

On most tube frames there is a pin in the right side axle that needs to be removed for freewheeling. Not sure of the g9 is a tune frame but from your description that's what is happening.

OK , thanks bigdaddydon , I actually saw the pin you are referring too , but wasn't sure what is was for , I thought it was for another type of attachment . So to push it around by hand without the engine running i need to pull the pin ? And yes the G9 is a tube frame , thanks a bunch , Scott

Remove the cotter pin then pull the pin to the left. You do not need to remove it In is drive out is freewheeling

ok thanks , got it to free wheel by driven the pin towards the middle of the differential , now to get the old thing runnin , lol . New battery but no engine crankin over , maybe the starter/alternater ?
