Looking for someone to coach a rookie into fixing a leak at a fitting. Should be just a matter of Teflon tape but I haven’t taken apart hydraulic lines like this apart before and would love a phone call or video chat so I don’t break something. I’m not 100% sure which one is leaking as the fittings below are also wet. Tried wiping off and seeing which was wet first but hard to tell.

Kioti CK2610 w/ 4030 loader.

Thanks

No teflon tape on those. Just grab the right size wrench and try to tight them a bit more and see if it stops leaking.

Those look like BSPP fittings which have a 60º male/female taper that seats against each other and provides all the sealing needed.

Be careful with Telfon tape on hyd fittings. You don't want it in your valves. Get hyd pipe dope instead. When you have fittings stacked like those are the top wet one is normally the leaker. But do as ptsg suggest and check to be sure each one is "snug". Oh, if new to hyd's do not untighten a fitting if there is pressure on it. They pressure can be high enough to inject fluid into your skin or other body injury. Also don't break pressure on the lift cyls on the loader if raised, it cause a very quick drop.

Thanks guys. Because they are a 90 they are tight enough I don’t think they can make a full 360* which messes up the alignment of the hoses.

And for the pressure warning - wiggling the joystick for stuff to relax is sufficient, right?

tighten the hose end to the 90 degree fitting first on all 3 and wipe dry. be sure you use 2 wrenches. 1 on the hose fitting (it turns) and 1 on the 90 degree fitting (it doesnt turn.)

now if it (they still leak) checking the top fitting first you need to know.... is it leaking from the 90 degree fitting threads and dripping to the bottom of the fitting? Or is it leaking from the hose connection then down the 90 degree fitting?

Then let us know

Thanks - I didn’t know if one or both turned. I wiped everything down and getting ice cream with the kids and will check /report back.

Since you aren’t sure which is leaking and it appears the top one could drip onto both lower hoses/fittings with gravity flow, put a piece of paper under each fitting group. It will not stop it from spreading once paper is wet enough, but it could eliminate fittings. If the top two pieces of paper remain dry you have your answer. Zip ties can help to hold the paper in place

Thanks guys. MaineWoodsman actually gave me a call and a few pointers - much appreciated! Feeling welcome to the TBN community already.

Great idea to separate the fittings by paper! I was trying to think of a way to tell which one was actually the culprit.

Think it was actually the two sides of the T on both of these as the other ones I really couldnt move.

What did go smooth was the horn install (not that it could be that hard) but my buddy’s company made it even better despite dropping all the wrenches.

Things were dry this morning so fired it up and raised/lowered the bucket a few times and put paper towels around each junction. Will
Check back later!

Paper towels were all dry tonight, hope that means we got it fixed! Thanks to all those that offered suggestions!
