I'm looking at the M-96 for my JD 2520 but I wanted to ask other Herd users how easy or difficult is it to calibrate the spreader? Also I can't find the weight of the M-96 on the web site and was curious how difficult it is to move it around.
Thanks for your input.

No experience with that model in particular. Growing up, we had a Herd 12V spreader for our 4 wheeler. Seemed to work pretty well for everything we used it for, including spreading alfafa seed on close to 40 acres. The small ATV version always seemed well made and worked well.

Thanks for the replys! The thread was helpful, I was able to get in touch with a couple of Herd owners.

I have heard nothing but the best about herd seeders. :D I would like to own one too.....but I wonder....(1) are they suitable for fertilizers as well as seeding? (or is this not recommended?) and (2) will a herd seeder work well with such small seeds as clover and spread to about 4 lbs per acre?..... or would some inert matter be required for such seeding?

Right now I am seeding (about 5 acres) with a hand held unit and using a low-cost fertilizer spreader. Maybe it don't get any better than this for my purposes.

I'm bouncing around the idea of getting a Herd M-96 as well. I like getting a deal on used stuff when you can but you don't get to pick what you get - you get whats available.

There is a seeder/fert spreader on sale locally that is 12 years old and apparently used only a few times for $300. I think it is one of those generic Italian ones. I might check it out.

I also see a Herd at a local auction coming up.

Think I might just buy new even though I will only use it once a year or so. Might as well have something that will last me 30 years.
