Looks like she'll pass right over our head tomorrow afternoon. I've put up, tied down, nailed up, and shut about everything around here this afternoon.

Bet I'll have plenty of tractor work for myself and my neighbors by Friday morning.....

Wish us luck.

Best wishes to you EW. Kind of makes our midwestern tornadoes seem insignificant. Of course, anything that hits you personally is a big deal.

Our news tonight showed a convoy of bucket trucks heading from Chicago area to Philly area to help with the aftermath. If nothing else, people certainly are better prepared for these events lately /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Good Luck Diesel. We had plenty of aircraft flying over home here today heading for safety at Grissom AFB which is about 40 mile from here. Pretty impressive.

Too bad you folks can't hitch your land up and drag it inland for a few days.

You know, it's pretty impressive how Mother nature can humble man with her wind and water in any form she chooses.

We may be able to move a mountain here and there but we are only temporary residents and the real owner of the land reminds us who is in charge.

Nature rules. Just get out of her way.

Once again good luck to you and your family.

Tom

Thanks guys, Means a lot that there are others that care.

Just to put things in perspective, our home was damaged by a tornado in 1995. This is our 3rd hurricane since. I'll take a hurricane any day compared to the unexpected and immediate destruction of a tornado. Never been more afraid in my life than that day.

Diesel,

I was going to mention the fact that with a Hurricane you have warning to get out of the way and with the Tornado's we have they just pop up with little or no warning.

However, I didn't want to make lite of the situation you are in.

Serious stuff either way.

I love to watch a storm and in particular a good lightening storm. Ah, the power that is turned loose is definitly shock and awe. But, I don't care for the destruction and loss of life and limb.

Best you can do is batten down and ride it out or get out.

Sounds like you chose to ride it out.

Good luck to you and yours.

On the lighter side. I like to watch the idiot weather folks that try to give a report out in the storm. One of these times one of them is going to blow away or get hit by an airborne critter. They will probably sue the government for someting if they get hurt.

Yor're right, that is entertaining to see these fools stand out in the fury and do a weather report. We have lots of that with the local coverage.

Actually heard of a local reporter that was injured while doing a report during hurricane Floyd. Personally, I think she should have had more sense than to put herself in that position.

Anything for the almighty dollar, or maybe the more noble cause of journalism I guess.

Hang in there and good luck.
We have people here waiting on the word to head your way.
After Floyd, we helped eastern NC re-built houses instead of police work. It was a learning experience. After going thru Hugo, I know first-hand of the items and amount of help needed.

Yep, good old Isabel spoiled my vacation. There is nothing I look forward to more than our week in the Outer Banks every year. We like the off season but there are risks. We got evacuated on Tuesday morning which was actually a beautiful day. So I paid a cool $1000 for the house (what insurance?) plus traveling expenses etc for two whole days on the beach. Now I'm sitting here at home and I'm STILL gonna get hit by her. Probably only 40 MPH or so but I think she could cut me some slack already!! Good luck to you and yours, though. I hope you get by without incident.

dieselsmoke1,

We are sitting here riding out the storm in the triangle of NC.
Doppler shows we are in between rain bands and the wind
has slowed down and almost stopped. This thing is going to
go over my wife's grandparents farm in eastern NC in a few
hours. They lost power but got it right back. The house is
around 100 years old so I guess they will be ok.

I'm not sure which is worse being up and watching during the
day or trying to sleep and wanting to watch at night! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Hopefully it won't be that bad compared to Fran or Floyd. I
checked the tractor yesterday and tried to find a better spot
to park it but its in a place that is as good or as bad as any
other. Fran knocked down the trees with wind from the north
and it looks like the there was only one tree that might fall
with that kind of wind. If it does I'll loose the JD48 backhoe.

Hopefully no trees will go. Or neighbor has a tree top down in
his yard. The house across the street had something happen.
Some repair people showed up and then everyone including
the renters left.... /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif And the storm ain't really here yet...

I was down east twice after Floyd. The first trip was right
after the storm and I was in Pitt county. Went through
a couple of towns that where wiped out. The second trip
we helped clean out houses. If we have to do that again I'm
rentng a trailer and hauling the tractor down there. No more
hauling appliances by hand!

Hopefully that won't have to happen...

Take care down there!
