My JD4020 (100HP Beast) has no 3 point hitch. It has a FEL but alas nada in the back. Based on the following

1. 3 Point impliments are easier to come by
2. 3 Point impliments tends to be the size I need (okay perhaps my tractor is a mite big for 31 acres)
C. tow behind implents tend to be large and expensive.

What do you guys(no gender implied) think about me building a tow behind 3 point system?:licking:

If I do this I will need your input on things but it might be a fun project to tackle.

Mama says I can't have another tractor:(

I think it would be difficult task; pto would end up being a problem, extra joint in your trailer chain (impossible to back up). I think you would be better able to build an external 3pt hitch that replicates the geometry of a real one. Some old Internationals had an external hyd cylinder that ran the 3pt for example (model 240). All you need is a really good frame and some pivot points. Do you have a PTO?

My brother lives in Ft St John - Macfarlane trucking - do you happen to know of him?

The specs say that your tractor has a closed center system pumping about 13 GPM, and pressure around 2250 psi. If you are industrious enough , you might be able to build something that would work similar to a 3pt system.

Maybe start with something like this.

What do you want the 3 point hitch to do?

In every personal experience, and in every example that I've read, it's ALWAYS cheaper to buy then to mondify. Not only is it very dificult to accomplish, it's rarely satisfactory in what you end up with. 100 hp tractor is going to do things to anything sticking out the back fo the tractor that you will either have to build to handle, or destroy over and over again until you figure it out. Either way, it's more time and money going into something that you are not able to use like you would have hoped to use it.

Google Temco, They sell after market tractor parts and rebuild kits. They should have a three point hitch that will bolt to your 4020.

The physical mass/size of your 4020 gives foundation for the 3pt to work from/against. A tow behind 3pt would need to be ballasted to resemble the mass of the 4020 rear end to get most implements to work correctly.
