Paul, I had opportunity to go up into Quebec Province a few years back. Went fishing for <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.state.me.us/ifw/fish/f-lktrout.htm>lake trout</A> (togue) near La Tuque. Ice out was in late May. Snowed the week we were there, first week in June.

Boy was it cold. Good thing I packed my long johns. /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif

La Tuque, eh - our camp is only about 50 miles southwest of there. Lots of strange, harsh weather up there. One year moose hunting it would get really cold at night - 5 degrees. We'd wake up in the morning and about 15 feet of the perimeter of the lake would be frozen. No big deal, it would thaw by 1pm. Except on about the 4th day when it stayed cold enough not to thaw at all. The next morning the whole lake was frozen - yikes! How is the float plane supposed to come and get us? We would've had to pack out to a larger lake - about an hour walk (multiplied by about 5 trips). We ended up using an aluminum row boat as an ice breaker. We freed up about a 20 yard swath down the length of the lake of 2 inch thick ice. The plane landed but made a sound like a gunshot when his pontoons hit the water and floating ice - man was he mad at us! To this day we refer to that row boat as the "Manhattan."/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
