I finally got my new 1736 and got a sweet 28% discount via the Massey Equine Program. Nice tractor w/ Mitsubishi engine. First new anything tractor I ever owned my newest prior being 1959. Lots of newer nicer goodies along with all the newer nicer electronics and safety goodies to go wrong later too.
So I get this baby going and since my old POS 230 Farmall died we have this massive pile of horse doo needs moving start to have at it. Worked fine kept the RPM's up 1500 plus just going about my usual but in style this time. So now my daughter has to go play with then new toy and I grab the manual and try to find something relevant and meaningful among the lawyerisms and safety stupid warnings that comprise half the book. Ahh, the break in recommendations, here we go. I come to engine operation. Here is what it said. "First 50 hrs OPERATE ENGINE AT FULL POWER". Ok so I go back out and immediately find that balls to the wall just aint gonna happen, absolute idiocy , so I compromise.
I run this thing 2000 to 2500 and split the difference. This docile well handling tractor turns into an over sped mean thing. Had to use low gear in 4th to move then the loader was so fast it was out of control much of the time. Screw that, back to say 2200 and I could actually make it work reasonably well. OF course it was Saturday afternoon so I couldn't call the dealer still I managed well enough although it was a major pain. Still , it never got hot or too far out of control . One thing it did do was curl the bucket so fast it flipped50 lbs of chit right on my hood and when I got done I found the grill was pretty chitty and well packed.
So Monday morning I call the dealer and ask him about it . Of course he says they are bugchit crazy and agrees with the good old philosophy of vary the speeds, cool downs and don't lug the thing. Of course now operating it like you should it works and behaves very nicely. I guess the moral of the story here is this" IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING DON'T TAKE THE MANUFACTURERS WORD AS GOSPEL. I would love to know how many yuppy types damaged their machines by running them that fast for 50 hours ? Amazing, this sort of idiocy is more what I would expect from some outfit on THIS SIDE of the puddle not Japan.

Now that was entertaining! I could almost visualize it as I was reading! Congrats on the new toy and for having common sense. Where's the pics of the chitty tractor? :)

Yeah, thanks for the Monday AM (for me) chuckle!

The reason they "suggest" that is because diesels like to have cylinder pressures up pretty high to aid in seating the rings, as I understand it. But no, I didn't run mine like that, either. Moderate RPM coupled with occasional good workouts while it was new. Congratulations on the new red thing!
