We have plenty more trees like this on our farm that they can live in. Besides the dogs tend to keep the wildlife away. Birds are always welcome. Raccoons, squirrels and the like are not welcome.

Thanks for the tips. i spent the morning climbing and felling branches myself... not as big as your tree, but big enough to get my adrenaline running!!! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Nevertheless, nice work- I've got to use my tractor this weekend to push a mulberry down that is growing in some powerlines... ugh... Art, I use a 1" marine rope for pulling the trees down. It streches out over 10 feet with tension. There use to be a manufacturer in Shirley that made this rope. Like most manufacturers here, they left for better places than Ma. The rope acts like a snatch-um strap. I can run the rope out on the back of the tractor and lock the brakes, climb the tree, cut the branch and let the rope pull it where I want it to go. I need to find a source for a new piece. The outside of mine has seen too many years of abuse and is frayed. There is an outer layer and an iner core. Breaking strength is supposed to be 100K when new. Good luck with your trees. Specialty ropes can be found at Sampson Rope Company. Don't know if they have the exact rope you are currently using.

Thanks for the link to Samson. That was the company that use to be in Shirley Ma. I have the DPX-75 rope that they sell. this rope is unbelievably strong. I will have to see what a new piece will run me.
