I fabbed up a little screen guard that I now call a F.O.G. to keep stuff from hitting me in the back when bushhogging, backing up the tractor out in the woods, etc. The mounting brackets on the Great Day canopy that I installed on the ROPS earlier this year made a great place to bolt the guard onto. The guard itself is made up of some 1/2" angle iron, a piece of 3/4" expanded metal, and some 1 1/2" flat bar stock that is 3/16" thick. The hardest part was getting the width of the expanded metal and the angles right because the uprights on the ROPS angle in towards each other from the bottom to the top. Gave it a coat of gloss black afterwards and it's a done deal. The bonus is that the expanded metal made a great place to re-mount my fire extinguisher, which used to be mounted onto the upright post of my chainsaw carrier. The extinguisher was hard to get to in that location, but now it's easy to grab if I need it. Also, I found a little hammer holder for $4 at Lowes that is supposed to strap oton your workbelt, but i simply bolted it onto the guard. Every time I attach or detach an implement, I need a hammer to tap a pin through or help knock one out, etc. This is the perfect place for it, with real easy access. I think I may get some sheet metal and fill in the gaps up at the top, on the corners. Anyway, almost time to start bush hogging the hunting property to get it ready for deer season!

Very nice modification, our highway mowers all use to have those before going to cabs.

looks great, I was going to do a similar guard until my wife suggested that I trade my B 2920 for a B 2650 with a cab. Love that woman and love the cab with A/C . I posted a thread on my mods but I need to add one when I mount my fire bottle . Like the idea of a hammer holster.

Great addition. I got hit in the back of the head, from a rock thrown up, by my bush hog about 20 years ago (no guards). Just about knocked me out. I had a big headache for a few days. :( All I had back then was the 8N Ford, so no place to put something like you have.

I've been mulling over ideas on how to do the same thing... I definitely need something on the back, but often deal with side intrusion, mostly on the right side. I also need to design around the available materials, as well as making it easily removable.

Nice work...

Here is what I built for mine recently. Build is documented in my full cage ROPS/FOPS thread.

MCD, howdy neighbor! Was up your way yesterday, took my wife to dinner for her birthday at the Highlands.
