I fabbed up a little screen guard that I now call a F.O.G. to keep stuff from hitting me in the back when bushhogging, backing up the tractor out in the woods, etc. The mounting brackets on the Great Day canopy that I installed on the ROPS earlier this year made a great place to bolt the guard onto. The guard itself is made up of some 1/2" angle iron, a piece of 3/4" expanded metal, and some 1 1/2" flat bar stock that is 3/16" thick. The hardest part was getting the width of the expanded metal and the angles right because the uprights on the ROPS angle in towards each other from the bottom to the top. Gave it a coat of gloss black afterwards and it's a done deal. The bonus is that the expanded metal made a great place to re-mount my fire extinguisher, which used to be mounted onto the upright post of my chainsaw carrier. The extinguisher was hard to get to in that location, but now it's easy to grab if I need it. Also, I found a little hammer holder for $4 at Lowes that is supposed to strap oton your workbelt, but i simply bolted it onto the guard. Every time I attach or detach an implement, I need a hammer to tap a pin through or help knock one out, etc. This is the perfect place for it, with real easy access. I think I may get some sheet metal and fill in the gaps up at the top, on the corners. Anyway, almost time to start bush hogging the hunting property to get it ready for deer season!
