I have a Mitsubishi D2350. When I raised the hitch it would lift a little and stop, lift a little and stop until it got to the top, making a howling/grinding noise everytime it would lift a little. It would lift the bush hog all the way up but it was really jerky and slow.

I called Lemuel at Valley Power checking for a radiator fan and fuel filter assy. I also told him about my hitch problem and he suggested cleaning the transmission oil filter. I had cleaned it and changed the oil around Nov or Dec and couldn't imagine it would be clogged up again but when I drained the oil it was milky and the filter was clogged worse than it was the first time.

I put a cloth over the drain bucket before I drained the oil and this is what got filtered out.

It's like the top was off the transmission for a couple of years (outside) then put back on without cleaning it out. This is the 3rd time I've changed the oil since Nov. Hopefully, it'll quit clogging the filter soon.

The hitch raises fine now with no howling noises.

If you leave your tractor outside when it rains or warsh you tractor... water can and does enter the trans via the top mounted transmission shifters. Lot of times the depressed boots act as funnels and actually make this worse. Those boots are just really dust covers, arn't water proof. Also, I think you get a little condensation inside the trans due to the large voids above the oil level because of daily temperature changes and the metal mass. If the oil is properly heated [ tractor worked for X amount of time ], the condensation is usually not a problem. Same thing happens in trucks or cars that only are used for short trips.

I park the tractor under a shed with no sides--roof only. It keeps most of the rain off but it is small and if the wind is blowing pretty good it can blow the rain onto the tractor. I think I'm going to get a piece of plastic to cover the shifter area and tie it down while it's parked.

What type of fluid do you run? Believe it or not I used gear oil in my d2350, because that's what the fluid type sticker said, And because it's what was already in there. I checked with my local tractor mechanic and he said that's what he always used on the 2350. A year later and still no problems with the trans or hydraulics

I'm about a year late but I use gear oil, like you.
