Working on 1989 NH L-785 skid steer . Rebuilding boom cylinders.
Service manual instructs first step is to unscrew spanner nut from cylinder head. The spanner nut turns but does not
unscrew. I turned it many times. Rebuilding both right and left cylinders and both do not unscrew. It seems the
cylinder head inside the barrel is turning with the spanner nut. According to manual the cylinder head is held in with
a inner snap ring. What keeps cylinder head from turning when unscrewing spanner nut. No visible set screws.
What am I missing.

Found solution from my neighbor who is great mechanic and problem solver. He put the barrel in vice
and compressed barrel enough to tighten around inner cylinder head. There wasn't enough friction against the
cylinder head to use the spanner wrench. So he used a impact hammer against spanner holes to start turning
off spanner nut. Once the thread released it unthreaded easy. This is an unusual hydraulic cylinder design.
The only drawback is the spanner nut holes got elongated from the impact wrench.
