Hi there everybody, my name is Mike iv been farming all my life. i was born in Canada where my father had a 48 acre mixed hobby farm, our hobby farm consisted mainly of produce and livestock that was grown for ourselves (2 gardens on 1.5 acres each, 15 acre pasture for cows, 3 acre hey fields, and about another 20 acre woodlot for heating our wood furnace in the winters. the rest of the land is lawn and swamp. the actual numbers fluctuated over the years as i was growing up but those are general ballpark figures. one thing i have to admit is that i HATED growing up on the farm, there was ALWAYS something to do and it took a lot of time out of my social life and sports. i moved to central Europe for university where i received my masters in mechanical engineering specializing in applied mechanics, i am now in my second year PhD in bio mechanics. my father followed me here as it is his home country and purchased (wih difficulty) about 800 acres of mixed land, mostly forrest but about 200 acres workable as well as another 200 for pasture. verry fertile land but difficult to work ( a lot of it is on heavy grades) i helped my father establish the farm here in europe now (my current location) and are in the cheese business! we have 400 sheep for livestock and grow our own feed for them, the starting years have been tough but we have finally gotten to the point where we are becoming very productive. After trying so hard to get away from farming coming to the city ive come to the realization that its in my BLOOD! no matter what i will never stop farming in one form or another. and of course ive been talking about myself for a long while here and it should be about the machines. on our farm we have 3 tractors (getting a fourth) a combine, skid steer, lots of implements and haying equipment and a small saw mill. my main reasons for joining this site is my lack of experience with new technology on tractors, specifically the claas ares ans claas arion tractors which are 105 and 120 hp respectively. i know that in north America these tractors are forign but some of the components are shared with John Deere and Massey Ferguson. ill get into detials elsewhere on the forum but i am looking forward to discussing variouse topics on the forum
