1969 AMC Hurst SC/Rambler

1969-AMC-SC-Rambler-rear-three-quarter

Condition #2 value: $63,900

Conceived for the drag strip and developed in collaboration with Hurst, the SC/Rambler brought big speed in a crude but affordable package for anyone muscle car shopping in 1969. Converting a ho-hum Rambler into an NHRA F/Stock weapon involved dropping in a 390cid/315hp V-8 from the AMX and adding a T-10 4-speed, Twin-Grip differential, front disc brakes, a heavier sway bar and, duh, loud paint.

A few SC/Ramblers got a more subdued, so-called “B” paint scheme with red and blue stripes down the bottom of the body, but most got the flamboyant “A” scheme. This one featured red body sides and huge graphics on the hood with both a giant arrow and the word “AIR” pointing to the mailbox-sized scoop, as if it weren’t obvious enough. Today, Hurst SC/Rambler in #2 condition is worth $63,900, and #3 (good) examples come in at around 50 grand. Honorable mention to the also-AMC, also-red-white-and-blue, 1970-only Rebel Machine, which is worth $75,700 in #2 condition.

No. Mine is a "B" scheme. I had an "A" exactly like that years ago. From the factory they had a Carter AFB carburetor, just changing that to a Holley 750 double pumper & recurving advance made a huge difference.
