Here in PA if you buy a tractor to use on a farm you don't have to pay sales tax. That's what the dealer said even though it was a very small compact and it won't be plowing or planting corn. On the other hand all the jobs are farm maintainence jobs. There are too many taxes and they are too complicated but this is a great place to live and hardly anyone is shooting at me. I'm probably not paying too much. Loved that tax rebate. Sad to see the deficit coming back.

In NC, there is apparently a cap of $80 on farm purchases. My dealer told me I should figure out how to claim I'm a farm and save 6 or 7 hundred bucks. I took one look at the form you had to fill out and decided signing it wasn't worth it. I gave the Feds 39% and NC over 7%, and I personally think that's way too much.
