hope all is well with every one, glad to see the group is going strong! last spring i told you all of the ck20 we bought. LOVE IT! some one said, i would, i do! been working on the land we bought last spring, set our camper up there while we farm, we camp i figured i paid for that camp site we'd use it, first year in 15 yr that we didnt go to the mts for 4th of July. we were on the farm. brush hogging and building fence, been so busy i got to trail ride my mule once last summer. got a great farmmer tan thou LOL it sure gets hot out there in the middle of a big field. so excited got grass growing where brush use to be. we're putting in blue berries in 1 acer.gonna do an u pick set up. got 8 acers fenced in my mule friends had a good summer.now the other side..its never done is it?Rose /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Always wanted to try riding a mule. Looks like it might be a rough ride but then again you probably aren't in it for the speed. Had a chance to buy a riding mule once -- actually a retired thoroughbred racing mule but the wife thought we should stick with horses. Ever go to the Maryland Draft Horse and Mule Association functions? I've gone a few times just to watch them work in harness. There's a lot more to that than the average person would think.

What part of the great state of WV are you from? I live in the eastern panhandle but my parents also have a summer place in Preston County about a 1/2 hour from Morgantown.

im about 3 hrs from morgontown,webster co., in the mts LOL.. i never thought 15 yrs ago id have mules.. but here we are.. got 4 ,1 reg jack, and 1 jenny.plus a short ear.arabian mare. she had a mule colt last summer..spoiled rotten..i have a 2 draft mules, olny prob is climbing inthe saddle. once you get up there your "tall in the saddle" LOL. they are good rides,not spookie, we trail ride up cranberry{bear country}. my jack is pretty laid back, but thay have all been imprinted since birth. makes a big diffrence. when i ride my jack the only prob i have is he want to visit every one on the trail LOL. been too busy with the new land we bought to do any riding last summer, but on the proptety there are nice trails i hope to hit this summer, will be nice to go for a ride and not have to trailor them . i have use them to pull brush,tree tops,and hope to use them on the farm. just to play around with them..they are great brush eaters. they have really clean up lots of junk on the farm so far like goats you can ride LOL. i go to the wv mule show at flatwoods every year. lots of ppl for other states attend.. its really a good time. have showed there a few times, hope to get misty ready next fall to go{arab mule colt} nice to meet ya all Rose

I have put hundreds of miles in on mule back. They are actually a nice ride. They don't have the high withers like a horse so your saddle needs to agree with that and then without those withers, the saddle is more likely to slip around. The other nice thing about riding the mules is that they don't seem to throw their shoulders like a horse. The ride is more flat and smooth. A barrel ride.

I worked up in the cascades as a wrangler packing campers around. One of the best feelings in my life was pulling a 5 mule string through the mountains all alone when I was 14. The trips were always one day or less each way but it was great. Even the river crossings where you had to get all 5+ animals into the river to drink without getting them tangled up. Or the crack the whip effect when going through switch backs.

Mules have more character. Seem smarter.

oh we just love to show off our "****" pardon the pun.LOL here is a pic of "cochran's general jackson's misty morning"what a big name for such a baby LOL she has out grown her dad now almost as big as her mom. she throws up her tail and she's a brown streak. she can cut and never miss a beat, she climbed up the front steps last summer after the dogs, they thought they were safe till she came up after them.. they are all buddys they will chase her, she'll take them out in the open and then she'll put them in the bushes LOL i heard the dogs banging onthe ft door, opened it there was that crazy little mule with head at my door! i couldnt open the door fast enough for the dogs . i have such a good time with the mules..i am suposed to sell her but i havent tryed to hard lol. the mule thinks, and you have to think like a mule, i tell my friend jane who rides with me you have to be the bigger mule.. and you get along fine with them... they do ride better not choppy my big belgin is like a rocken chair. glad to see some one else is into mules...
