Hi All,

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to all who post on this site.

I have never owned a tractor or until last year more land than 1/5 of an acre! However I had long dreamed of owning a property with land in a very rural setting and bought a badly maintained property (both house and land!) of 30 acres located in the lovely Charente region of France, it is currently a wart but with the potential to be a diamond.

The acres comprise of approx 4.5 of 'grassland' with the remainder woodland and a 2 acre lake. Anyway I have come to realise that without a tractor (I am a bit slow!)it is going to be impossible to regain control, the property has been overgrown by brambles in many places which have to date been tackled with a strimmer! Initially I was at least able to regain control of about an acre around the house with strimmer and ride on mower but a visit by the local boar population put paid to coping with the ride on, they must have been big boars!

Anyway to cut a long story short the information you guys post has already been invaluable to me as I research compact tractors (currently looking at the JD 2032r and 3036e) and implements(still undecided as to what but a must have is rotary mower/bush hog or flail mower), so much so that I decided to become a member yesterday.

Expect you'll be hearing more from me, initially queries but ultimately some reviews of chosen equipment and perhaps some progress reports if anyone is interested.

The time some of you guys take to answer queries and the comprehensive content of many of the responses very impressive and very helpful so thanks again to all of you......

Welcome to TBN, Novice Brit!
Our tractors help us get heaps of work done and save our backs every weekend.
Good luck with your selection - you will have lots of help.

Hello compatriot!!! Good to hear a familiar accent...:)

We live in the England and visit France a lot. My Wife's parents have a place on Mayenne and another in Orne. Neither have any land though. I go to Le Mans for the 24hrs every year too. I would move out there if I could.

Anyway, enjoy the site, good luck with whichever tractor you end up with.

Thanks for that,

Good to hear from you, my last return from France was more interesting in that there were a lot of Le Mans fans returning to uk, the police were out and about and caught a few:-(. Thought I had been caught too but seemed like they weren't bothering anyone a little over the limit, far 'bigger fish' to fry!

Would love to move to France full time but still to convince the 'Boss' and family circumstances currently not yet right for a permanent move.

Exciting times though and looking fwd to another 'boys toy'. Tractor will certainly ease the workload too.

The forum seems excellent and was directed to it almost every time I typed a query into google.

Guess you are farming in Lancashire?

Best rgds

Dave

South east Lancs, not far north of Manchester.

Gone are the days when you could blast down the Peage, I realised that a year or two ago. I just set the cruise control to 130 and have a stress free trip these days.

What's the price of tractors and implements like in France compared with home? Is it worth me looking out for stuff when we are out there?

Have yet to price Tractors in France in person but from all I hear online, tractors are expensive. This was backed up when I was researching ride on mowers, it was far cheaper to buy a JD ride-on in UK & transport than in France. Exchange rate has since changed in our favour so may look slightly different now but I am gearing up to buy in UK again but will be visiting dealers in France before I commit. Have to add my french isn't good enough yet and this means I lean towards buying in UK but i do expect the same scenario as with ride-on.
