Hi im new to the site and have questions regarding a mower craftsman ii 18 hp b&s

So I thought I found a good deal and they want 400 bucks, I thought the mower was a older craftsman II with the 6 speed hi and low which I've heard are real strong and a work horse. I have a pic and found out it is a lot newer and doesn't have the luge drums in the rear and it has a 6 speed fender shift which I don't see on the older ones at all barely, it has the 18 hp twin b&s is this any good? I'm not even sure what year it could be but looks like it's in really good shape, maybe someone can help me with a year,mall in all I'm trying to figure out if this is a good deal and if it's some what the work horse it used to be or if it's something to stay away from?

Does look to be in good shape. What are your plans for it? Will it mow only and how much area?

Well I'm not sure how big of a yard I have but takes just over3 hours to push mow, I wanna be able to pull a cart around full of fire wood and things like that, mainly for mowing and my property is all flat. I live in Minnesota so a snowblower would be an option. I also have been looking at a Jd stx38 a stx46 with black decks and a lt155 , not sure what's the best bet and if those Jd are even of any quality since there cheaper low end models the Jd all have the kohler motors and the stx46 is hydrostatic

:welcome: If you don't get the answers you seek here, you might search Yahoo Groups. I think they have one dedicated to the old garden tractors with lug nuts on the rear wheels.

I have pictures of all mowers I'm interested in the lt133 has had steering shaft, solenoid and muffler replaced so I kinda am thinking it's been beat on and gonna continue to have problems, the stx46 which only says 170 for the model on the hood is in good shape and just had a full tune up and the stx38 is in fair shape been used alot. Now the stx46 may have been repainted and since the hoods were cheap may have been replaced with the one on it that says 170..could be wrong but not sure..I'm thinking more like its the 170 model with a stx deck put on it to save money because there cheaper
