There has to be more to this story. Why did you remove it, and what else did you do while you had it out.

...the selector's tubular, welded on part, that actually slides the tranny gears, had broken off...the remaining shaft(that the selector handle screws into)easily slid out the right side of the case...the new selector, when attempting instalation from the inside of gearbox,is obstructed by that large gear on the uppermost, centrally located shaft(looking down into gearbox)...this large gear has a rounded shoulder that faces the rear of the machine....it has been running just fine otherwise just being left in one range or the other...this large gear(sorry,i havent been able to identify its name)has a smaller counterpart that slips inside it a bit,THAT one slides to the front of the machine easily...no home computer here, sorry for slow response time...

Is that supposed to be a sliding gear that is stuck for some reason? I have never had to replace that shift arm, but have heard (read) of several guys that have with no problem.

...hmmm...thats what i was afraid of,it DOES appear to be a very simple change-out, i didnt want to FORCE any movement of that gear...like i said, its been running fine with no funny noises,so i dont suspect there to be anything major to be wrong, like the old broken part being WEDGED in there! thanks just the same,i'll check back and write back if i get it figured on my own...now,where's my wooden hammer?....
