Don't have the tractor yet and no manual to look at, so forgive if dumb Q---On an L245DT the hi/lo box has 1-2-3 but the info says 8 speeds. So--assuming 1-2 are hi/lo, what is #3 for???

Make sure you are not looking at the PTO shift lever. By the way 1st PTO would be the standard 540rpm speed. There should be a separate high/low lever somewhere close to the 4 speed shifter to shift the trans from high to low.

The lever next to the left of the tranny is the one I am referring to, it has 1-2-3 but the info from tractor data says 8 speed not 12. PTO lever is by the seat.

Teg, let me see if I have this right--tranny is 4 speed + reverse, side box is 1-2-3, so it is actually 12 speeds with 3 reverse, as in 1+1,2,3,4--2+1,2,3,4--3+1,2,3,4--1+R--2+R--3+R?????

Under the seat area there are three levers, I figure one is PTO, one is the 3pt, no clue what the third one is tho. Any ideas??

I know what you are talking about now... the 1-2-3 is for the PTO (left side box) speeds are 540/700/1000 at the rated rpms, 2800. The right side is the gearbox for the drive-train... so, yes 8 forward and two reverse. Sorry about that :ashamed: The High/Low shifter should be by the heal of your left foot, almost under you. The other lever you step on to lock both back wheels together. Use that if you are spinning one wheel and you need to transfer the power to the other one (mainly to get unstuck).

Low 1-4 shift to High 1-4 plus reverse high and low. You'll have to come to a complete stop to shift (just in case you did not know :confused2:) It's not like a car or truck. It's a good old tractor...

OK teg, I got it now. Yep, I knew, no syncro and no way to feather the throttle like I used to do in model A's. The three levers under the seat do not include the one you step on for diff lock--two with black handles, one on each side, and one with a red handle on the left.

Long talk with two different dealers-one seemed to know his stuff--other, well not so much. Copies of the pages from manual on the way, but am told that the levers on the left of the seat are, 4WD, and Hi/Lo, the one on the right is 3pt. Told that the foot lever is diff lock, as you said, but told it is on right side. Either way got it figured out I hope--don't want to go get it and look like an idiot. Would not make the seller happy to part with his 25 year old baby to a schmuck. Thanks again guys.
