Sorry having difficultly responding to this thread, I wondering if any had any experience with long backhoe regarding gland seals replacement in the rams. The biggest problem i have is finding parts, I have a repair manual but no parts book. I have been told by the last owner that I can remove the gland nut, take the ram shaft out and take it to a repair shop, (I done that before on a case 580).

I am not familiar with your backhoe, but I have a long 119. I have not used it much but just rebuilt all 7 cylinders. I suggest taking them off, getting them apart, and taking the gland and the piston to a seal place and having them select new seals for you. That's what I did. I don't even remember which seals they gave me but they all work fine. If you are not close to a seal place, then read up on how to measure, and email all of your measurements to a seal place. I doubt you will find a list of the exact replacement seals you need, so taking it apart and ordering to specs would be your best choice.

Here are some pics of my process.

for what its worth... the seals that came out are no longer made, so the inside gland seal doesn't fill the whole space. I was concerned, but it works fine. I replaced EVERY seal on all 7 cylinders and it cost me around 125 dollars in seals, and a tub of petro jelly to lube it up when I put it back together. Getting the cylinders off was a PITA, but was a lot of fun and a great learning experience.

I also rebuilt the 38TD engine and it runs really well.
