Hi guys and gals, i am new to the forum but not tractors though i still have a good bit to learn about them, anyways i will be building a house around march or april of next year and will soon need a machine to cut the lawn of 1 acre and maintain another 12 acres we have, I will not be alone at this my "old man" already ownes a TC40DA and will soon be trading it in for a TC45DA so naturally i will have to go with New Holland since blue blood is in the family:D , my question is will this little tractor be sufficent enough for my needs or will i need a larger size, the main reason i like this tractor is the simplicity of it and the price. Also would the R-1 tires be to aggressive for lawn cutting, i would like these tires because we do have some wet spots on the land and i would like the extra traction or would the R-4's be enough traction.

Thanks:)

The TC30 could be a good fit. I would make out a list of your primary tasks. 1 acre of mowing with a lot of trees would not lend itself well to many compacts. Not manuverable enough perhaps. Don't worry about the tires. I'm running ags on my 1720, the pre-cursor to the TC30, and they don't tear up the yard too bad. Just don't turn as sharply. I'm running a 5' rear finish mower and will upgrade to a 6 footer eventually but I have few trees. Currently cutting 5 acres.

You may want to look at the new TC34. More money but better creature comforts. Make sure you sit on the unit before you buy. I'm short and leg room is not an issue. It you'er over 6 foot tall platform space could be an issue. Good luck!!!

Yes, R1 would ruin your lawn when compared to other tire choices. I have R1 and they eat my lawn up! But I never plan on using my tractor opn the lawn. Bottom line, you have to make a choice, no lawn=R1, lawn=R4 or turf.

I have 2 acres and I mow with a TC29D. I have the R4 industrial. Turf tires just slipped on my hills. The R4's are pretty good and don't rip up the lawn. If your wet spots are so wet that you need R1's the weight of the tractor would dig some pretty good ruts. The TC30 is a built to compete tractor, reliable and does a pretty good job. Before you buy, just to ease your mind, look at the TC34 and see how you like it. Yes more expensive but you might like the feel of it better. Either way both are good reliable machines.

Lmc2,

I will attempt to answer your tire question first. Unless your land is very hard packed to the point of being able to drive a loaded truck over with no visible indentation then yes the R1’s (Ags) will tear up your lawn. I have the Titan Multi-Trac C/S Turf tires and they have done extremely well for me cutting grass (3 acres of soft farm land seeded to make a lawn), loader work in the fields and across the lawn, brush hogging a few acres of former field, maintaining a 1250 foot gravel and asphalt drive, and snow removal. The only place they have come up short is heavy loader work for which I purchased a second set of front rims and mounted Industrial tires. I have a few mucky clay areas and the turfs load up terribly but they are not too long and for the most part I can stay out of them when it is wet.

I would suggest the Industrial tires as a good compromise. They have better flotation on the lawn and a good bite for the area’s you need traction. My fronts indent the lawn and tear it up a bit if I make any type of sharp turn or turn around at the end of a run so you still need to watch it with then.

As far as the tractor I have a TC33DA and feel that it is the perfect size for my 11.5 acres and numerous earth moving, cutting, grading projects. It is a bit large for getting around and under trees but just pick out slightly larger trees with out low branches and put big 5’ diameter mulch beds around them. This has worked well for me. I looked at the TC30 and after test driving the 30 and 33DA couple of times went with the 33DA. The added creature comforts of the 33 sold me: spring suspended/swivel seat, tilt/tele steering, extendable TPH, crank TPH leveler...

I feel they should both be up to the task. Good luck and have fun playing in the dirt.

I'd be asking dad for a good deal on the TC40DA, see what the dealer would give him for trade and then ask for a 15% family discount. :)

I have R-4's on my 33D and they are fairly easy on my ground. I can't do sharp turns on the yard but they can power though the "slippery stuff" when I'm stacking manure.

Maybe dad will offer 0% for 60 like CNH. :)

For my 2.5 acre lawn and other pastures, I shopped the TC30 and TC33. I ended up with a new TC34, mainly due to the extra torque of the bigger engine and the fancy extras. I'm very glad I spent the extra money. The tractor is super comfortable and the ergonomics fantastic. The extendable end links and crank leveler are very useful as well. The R4s are just fine on the lawn.
If I had only 1 acre to mow and 12 acres of pasture to maintain, I would think about a riding mower/ZTR mower and talk Dad into a good deal on the TC40 for the pasture. Good luck - can't go wrong with Blue.

I have ten acres and a TC 30 9x3 with R4s. It works just fine for me whether I am mowing the lawn or the pastures or knocking down the underbrush between the trees in the areas where I left standing timber. If I had money to burn I would have up-gunned to a nicer rig with a bigger engine, but the TC 30 does everything I need it to do and the price was lots friendlier.
