Prior to fall 2006 most on-road diesel was "low sulfur" which I believe was 500pm. Now we have ULSD which is 15ppm I believe.
The older fuel, which may still be allowed for offroad use like farming, was I believe 5000ppm - 10 times more than what had been allowed on-road in the early 2000's. It probably won't cause a problem in a tractor that has no emissions system (most don't even if made today) but I would read your owner's manual to see if there are any fuel restrictions. I would guess that the "high sulfur" fuel is in fact at this very lax requirement, and not just at the 500ppm requirement for LSD. Is it significantly cheaper?
