Is it really worth $6.50/lb? (19.48/3 Lb bag)

I have a sloped area that gets a lot of foot, mower, cart and now tractor traffic. It's basically the only way from the driveway area to the lower part of the property. It's always been just junk grass like the rest of the yard, but I've had to tear part of it up to work on the shed project. Wen wet, it's super slick mud and heavy rain washes it out easily, even if tamped firmly. Now that I've got much of the shed project in hand, I need to till it again and plant something that is less vulnerable to the tractor weight.

The listing just says "Primary Grass Seed Type: Mixture/Blend ", but doesn't specify the grasses. It isn't available in stores, so I can't go look at the bag either. Guess I could chase down the Scott's site ...

I have two "Grass companies" within 30 miles. I have purchased the best "high traffic" grass seed from them. It might be worth your while to investigate from this aspect. The only down side - this "high traffic" grass is not your normal soft lawn grass.

Look at the age/expiration label close. Last bag of seed I bought had a sticker over the label with an updated expiration date. That date was expired and when I peeled the label back I discovered they covered up a year old expired date. I tried to germinate a sample and none grew. I took it back to Lowes for a refund.

Zoysia, if you can afford it. Takes some time and effort to get established but pretty much carefree from there.

This is one post that location would really help. Ask local extension agent what grows best in your area. Grass type depends on soil type and your weather. My area ky31 fescue is the high traffic grass of choice

The blend will most likely be high in fescues.

Here they use Bahia for the sides of the roads for how well it holds up. It is also used some for hay so it is not a low growing grass. My best suggestion would be call your local people who maintain the roads and find out there thoughts. Bahia is easy to cut with regular lawn mower and it does hold up well to wet and sloped areas. We have it around a shop that does get a fair amount of traffic and it holds up well. Matter of fact had only recently thought about what type of grass it is for when raining it grows and when it is dry it still grows.

As to the price of the seed, do not decide by price per pound. Years ago I realized at least for my lawn needs the cost per square foot was about the same if using a high price per pound over the lower price per pound seed. Seed size. If you are needing any amount check out farm supply seed dealers over such as Lowes. Depending on the seed maybe golf course suppliers.

If the seed was not available in your local box store, it probably is not good choice for your area. Farm or garden store will have better variety for your area
