Hill farm on Ky River

Currently in Belgium. Going back stateside in April 2014. Have farm on Ky River in Madison County Ky. Hillsides are steep. Looking at Ventrac, Steiner and Scag type hillside mowers. Anyone with knowledge? Have 80 acres of terrain that varies from rolling to steep (>20D) to flat bottom land. At one time had a small ford (1951 year) that I almost flipped. Thanks DD.

How steep are your hills? Any issues?

Welcome back. Do you really need to mow the hillsides? I would look at some type of landscaping and do it one time and let it maintain itself. Any of the newer tractors with front wheel assist will be more useful than your old ford 8n. The key is to see what your neighbors are using.

For just mowing I would recommend a 4WD out front deck machine. Mine is a 1996 TORO Groundsmaster 325D, with a 6' deck.


This is about a 27 degree slope.


If you need a machine that will do more, the Toolcat is very stable on side hills.


61 HP Kubota diesel, 5' wide, 4WD, 4 wheel steer, SSQA plate on the loader.
