Hello folks,
This is my first time posting to these forums even though I've read them many a time. I'm hoping someone can give me advice on a Hino E2304 repair.
The 4wd front axle pivot point on my 1983 Hino E2304 has about an 1/8th of an inch or more play front to back and I know that's not good. The Japanese manual I have shows the shim I need to replace, but I'm not sure where to get it or how to go about making the repair. Is it possible to take off only the front axle support bracket where the shim is and replace it that way?
It's been a great workhorse for the past 5 years and only has 1000 or so hrs on it. I'm mechanically inclined but would appreciate some guidance on this repair. I understand the axle is identical to that of a MF1030.
Thanks much
Stu

Stu, welcome to TBN. Do you have the manual for your tractor? If it is the same as the MF, might get the manual from them that covers the unit you have, check the parts breakdown, and see how it comes apart. If you can get the bushing/bearings from them, then your good to go. If it is a bushing, maybe you could get a machine shop to cut you one if it is not available from your local MF dealer or the dealer you bought your tractor from. Good luck

Stu,

Your tractor is a first cousin to the Massey 1030. There were a few variants of the 2304 though. The 2304 is one of my favorite grey market tractors. One word of caution, the outboard gears of the front axle are fragile. Do not put a loader on your tractor and if you do, do not be overly aggressive with it. I broke the front gears in one and I had a customer that broke gears in his. We replaced them with Massey gears. I tend to work a tractor hard, but I have never broke a gear in a Yanmar.

Unfortunately, Hinomoto is out of business and nobody picked up their production data, BUT I have been lead to believe that the 2304 is the domestic (Japanese) version of the Massey-Ferguson 210-4 and the Allis-Chalmers 5020-4. I have a 5020 so photo(s) of what you are talking about may be helpful in identifying commonality. I will be gone for a long wekend (son is getting married in CA) but may be able to get online while away, otherwise it may be Monday night. My A-C manual is for the 2WD version so it is no help. Send me a private message if you think I can assist.

The 2304 is a cross over to the Massey 1030 and the Deutz Allis 5220. The 210 and 5020 were older models built on Hinomoto 2 digit models. I don't have my data over here in Iraq, but the MF205 was a Hinomoto E18 or E182/184. The 5020 was built on something like the Hino E23.

Thanks so much for the welcome and info, everyone; I really appreciate that.

To VistanTN: I knew about the AC 5020 but not the MF 210-4; I certainly would be interested in comparing photos.

Tractors4u: No plan for a loader, already built my house and could have used it then:). I did read your thread about the front axle awhile back so I didn't want to take a chance with the gears. I use it mostly for mowing/bushoging/posthole digging now.

BTDT: I have the Japanese manual with the schematics but not the part #'s. I have seen manuals for the 1030 going for as much as $150. I missed one on ebay a few months ago for $25 :-( I may just drive the 40 miles to our local MF store and 'pretend' I have a 1030 and see what parts the come up with. A machine shop would be a good alternative.

My local Massey dealer is "grey market" friendly and they have let me behind the counter to get on their computer and they have called me at home when someone came in with a grey needing parts. I bought gears for mine from the dealer but once when I needed a PTO shaft for a customer is was quicker and much cheaper ordering it from Japan.
