I am looking to purchase a Hinomoto C174 with a Loader and a 4' Finish Mower and Tiller and was curious what people think of the Hinomoto Tractors. I currently have an Iseki TL2100F that I am selling because it is too big to mow my lawn with. I am thinking I can use this little tractor for a variety of reasons including snow removal, gravel road maintenaince, etc. I want to get the most out of my tractor without buying something too big.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Let me first sat the the C174 is one of my favorite tractors, grey market or otherwise. When I was a teen my dad had an Allis Chalmers 5015 which was the same tractor but his was two wheel drive. I have never used a loader on a C174 but I have plenty of experience with loaders on the E2304s. If you buy this tractor DO NOT OVER WORK OR OVER LOAD the front end loader. Again my experience is with 2304 Hinomotos but, I personally know of 3 instances of gears in the front axle breaking and I know of one 2304 breaking in the middle and one 2004 breaking in the middle. All tractors were with loaders. My gut tells me that the C174 would be stronger for it's size than the 2304s, because it is small but built heavy. I know that the 2304 that I broke a gear on was being worked hard and the guy that broke his in the middle was also pushing it too hard. I am not saying yours will break with normal usage, just remember that it is a 20hp tractor!

Thank you Brent for the information. Well taken. Sounds like the tractor is a good one for what I want to do. I am just looking for 1 tractor that I can mow my lawn with as well as move snow and occasionally do landscaping, etc. Sounds like the one for me.

How about parts. Is this model easy to get parts for?

Thanks again,

John

We carry used parts for the 174 and I agree with Brent that it is a great tractor. There are two models of the 174 one has a brace on the front axel and works well with a loader (as long as you have a sub frame, the bell housing and tunnel is aluminum) the other has no brace like an Exx model and should not have a loader mounted unless it is being used lightly. The 174 is hard to buy turf tire for since they are 18" the 144 has 16" wheels though and would be easier to put turfs on.
