Pardon me if this is a stupid question. I have a Hinomoto E14 diesel. This is my first diesel and since I bought it used, (no manuals, etc.) I need to know what motor oil to use. Is there oil that is better for diesels, or just use regular motor oil? What weight is right?
Thanks for any help.

Yes, you do want an oil rated for diesel engines. On the container, you will see some "API" ratings, usually 2 letters, and sometimes more. If the first letter is an "S", it's a rating for a gasoline engine, and if it's a "C" it's for a diesel engine. And the farther up the alphabet the second letter is, the later the rating, more additives, etc. Of course many oils are rated for both. So I'd look for one that has CH-4 or better rating, and in general prefer a viscosity of 15W-40 myself. I think the most popular diesel oils are Shell's Rotella and Chevron's Delo 400, but of course there are many others, including a number of synthetic oils.

Any diesel oil that is rated for a truck should work.... The age of the Hinomoto 14 would indicate that a CF rating or higher would work fine.... but as Bird said, you might as well use the later rated oils....

Stop at any Farm type Store... not sure where you are at but TSC's are in many states.. we have those also Bomgaars, Orshelin's... You can get a couple of choices.. of course Walmart is everywhere, they sell Rotella (Shell) also Delo which is Chevron... They even have their own brand, Super-tech if you want to save money... On the weight issue, that is personal preference... I use 15W40 in the summer, as it can be 90 - 100 degrees when I am mowing... in the winter, I switch over to 10W30 as I keep my tractor in an unheated extra detached garage...we can have days at 10 Below sometimes... frequently near Zero....

I think it starts a tad bit easier with the thinner oil.... I am thinking about switching over to Rotella 5W40.... This can somewhat depend on where you are located.... climate - Florida/Texas vs. Minnesota so to speak.... If I were down south, I would probably run 15W40 all year round.....

So, lot's of choices....

Hello, I would like to inquire about the type of oil that the hydraulic system of a Hinomoto E14 occupies.
Thanks.

I used the traveler premium brand hydraulic transmission fluid from tractor supply in my hino built allice Chalmers 5020 and it seemed to work great.
