Historical Q- Jacobsen Lawn/Garden stuff

Well, sort of a poll....

Who here, owns or have owned, a Jacobsen product? Be it a lawn/garden tractor or even their early 'push' equipment. I guess the time period of equipment is between 1961 to 1982.... right about when they were sold to Textron.

I have two jacobsen self propelled 21" mowers - one my parents bought new and one I bought new at the same time. Both still serve fine and have never had anything done to them at all except heavy doses of abuse each summer.

I've got a 1972 Jacobsen Chief 1000 rider.

It's got a 10HP Kohler, a 38" deck, front blade, wheel weights and chains.

Funny that I found this post, because I'm in the process of rebuilding the deck, sort of. One of the bearing seals was shot, so I've been tracking them down.

Here's a recent picture of it in action when I was putting a lawn in earlier this year.

My father had a Jacobsen power walk behind reel mower. I think he bought it new in 1958. He was real proud of it, Jacobsen was one of the best manufacturers of lawn equipment in those days. He used it for at least 20 years. He always said it cut better than a rotary, and I think it did.

Rich, I think the reel type mowers have always cut better than a rotary type if you keep up with mowing before the grass gets too tall. You get a cleaner cut on the ends of the grass blades.

Maybe a little off topic, but, my son bought an old Jacobsen chief 1200. He is in need of a diagram that shows how to route and adjust the mower deck belt(s). Can anyone on the forum provide any info. Thanks in advance.
