hitachi 1/2" cordless drill

I see lowes has this drill on sale for $99. Does this drill compare with the better 1/2 drill? Anyone have one of these and do you like it?

I have all Hitachi cordless tools. I still have my Bosch 14 volt that I bought because of it's weight. But everything else has been replaced with Hitachi.

One of the biggest reasons is I like them, their feel, power, etc. But an even better reason is their warranty. I burnt up a half inch cordless drill. My tool supplier, American tool and fastener in Plano Texas, is an authorized Hitachi repair center. The bill was about ninety dollars. Hitachi has a five year warranty and they have the serial number recorded so they know when the tool was purchased and where. In this instance Lowes. The repair was free.

Another thing I like about Hitachi is their attitude about Lithium Ion batteries. My last cordless purchase was a quarter inch Lithium Ion impact. I can use those batteries in my other Hitachi eighteen volt tools and I can use my other batteries in the impact. Every other manufacturer is making you buy new tools to go with the new battery.

BTW, if you're using your new cordless drill for anything but tough drilling consider a quarter inch impact instead. They're lighter, more efficient, and if you're around the garage at your car dealer, the tool to have. I use mine as an impact and have discovered it out performs my old Milawaukee corded screw gun for installing tek screws which I thought could never happen with a cordless.

You may want to check ridgid brand at H.D At one time ridgid had life time warranty on their power tools including the batteries

I have a Hitachi 18v cordless set , 1/2 Drill , Circular Saw , Saws All , Light , love it .
I will have to say I have had a problem with the Drill already , it slips out of speeds when high torque is applied , I also have a cordless 18v 1/2 Makita that runs circles around the Hitachi .

What do you mean it slips out of speeds with high torque? Like the torque settings slip when using the screw settings?

I have the Hitachi 1/2" cordless. I use it alot, and it's a great drill. The batteries are particullarly impressive, they last longer than any other batteries on any other cordless tool that I've had. It's a great buy.

By the way, before I bought it, I was considering a Ridgid cordless drill. I e-mailed Ridgid on their website and asked if the batteries were really on the lifetine warranty. The response I got back said that, when the batteries fail, you have to bring them back to a Ridgid authorized repair shop, NOT Home Depot, and the repair shop would decide if they were defective or abused.

I then checked on the website for where the nearest authorized repair shop was for me, and it was over an hour away. So I bought the Hitachi, and I've been very happy with it.

Ditto what mechanic asked.. is it slipping at dialed in torque settings?
