Just picked up a Hitachi framing nailer used. The guy had two, I couldn't resist, I bought that one also. They seem to work well. Would like to have had one when we were building the barn. Has anyone worked on them? I have this urge to take the front off and clean things up. I'ed like to hear if you have had one apart. Richard

My mother always told me: "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

Very sage advice.

Yep,I use one every day for years, good framer they are..but, they are finicky about double rows of nails, they must not climb on each other. Also I would not take that thing apart as the roller spring will come un-done bigtime unless you do it exactly correct. Just blow it down with compressed air & oil it up & keep it wd-40'ed& all will be good. Also check oncein a while that all allen head bolts are tight , especially the ones on the nose, they specifically come loose more often. Framing guns are seriousely dangerouse tools. This I know

Like Joe said, oil it and use it. There are fragile "o" rings and springs in there and if the gun has been oiled regularly there should not be much to clean inside.

I'll repeat what Joe said, framing guns are seriously dangerous tools, be carful. I'll show you the surgery scars if your close by.

I agree with the others. While I don't have Hitachi, my DeWalt framing gun is very finicky on the nails being loaded just right and even then, it will have issues with them. I wont' buy another DeWalt nail gun, but don't know which one I'll buy to replace it yet. I thought about Hitachi, but it sounds too much like my DeWalt. Bosch and Makita are probably to two I'll decide from.

Good luck with your gun.

I have an NR83 also and have the same issue with allen bolts working loose. The nails will start mis-firing if it is loose. If you check them before you start they rarely work loose enough to be a problem.

Greetings, Just got in, glad you took time to post. That sounds unanimous, I won't open them up. I used one for the first time this summer. Built my house without one. Never saw anyone wear protective glasses when useing one, do you? Richard

I wear eye protection when using my nail gun.

I specifically bought my nail gun because it used paper tape to hold the nails instead of metal or plastic. Even the paper is flying around from time to time. Don't want it in my eyes much less metal or plastic from the nail strips. Then there is just stuff blown by the air and possible fragments from the nail and wood.

Glasses cheap. My eyes, as bad as they are, priceless.

Your eyes your call.

Later,
Dan

I have a Bosch. Best gun I ever used.
Built an addition to the house and a new garage, then my buddy built his garage and house with it ( in that order :))!
We never had a problem with it, not even any loose bolts all tho I did check them. My buddy had a Hilti? and he said it was a piece of junk.

Bad news is that my Bosch uses the clipped head nails that have fallen out of favor with builders ( so I'm told) and I cant seem to find nails for it!!

Clipped head nails, I'm told are not code here, California and Nevada. But yesterday I bought a box of 8d full heads and there were boxes of clipped head on the shelf, this was at Home Depot.
Are 8d more likely to jam in the NR 83A2? I read that on the net but didn't have a problem siding this summer.
Dan, I'll use glasses from now on.

Eddie, If you know someone with a Hitachi it would be a good idea to try it out. No one here uses anything else on the job. I bought these because of what I heard from the pros, and when asked to work on a job thats the brand I was handed. Worked very well. Richard
