Just bought a JD 5103 (cat 2 TPH) with a Frontier BB2072 BB (cat 1 TPH). The dealer just attached the two. Looks like I should have a bushing on the tractor draft links to account for the difference in OD of BB pins and ID of tractor draft links. Am I missing something here?

You are correct. There should be a bushing on the pins to make up the difference in size.
I would recommend a Imatch quick hitch. Most of the Frontier equipment is Imatch compatible. Talk to your JD dealer.

I had the same issue with a 6' King Kutter rotary mower. I talked to several people who said, it's not a big deal. But, to me, I didn't like the idea of the pins bouncing around in the holes. My dealer never mentioned it or anything about fixing it.

I found the bushings at a local farm store. They should be available at Tractor Supply Company, Orscheln (any farm type store) or even your dealer. Just ask for the bushings required to change CAT1 pins to CAT2. Or, you could just change out the pins on the Box Blade to CAT2. It took some looking, but I found them.

Thanks for the help. I'll try to locate some bushings. I'm kinda disappointed in my dealer for not pointing out the problem and at least giving me the option of the correct setup. Makes me wonder what other shortcuts they take!!!! I'll definitly consider some type of quick hitch as I add additional implements.

I would change out the pins on the Box Blade to CAT2. Cat2 pins are available at Farm Supply Stores. Cost wise about the same as the bushings. Better yet call the dealer and ask to exchange the WRONG size pins he installed for the correct pins.

I recently went through this after acquiring my i-Match for my JD4600. I had been using my implements (Buhler Finish mower, Frontier Box Blade, etc.) with the traditional connections being to the 3-pt arms and top-link. When I switched to the i-Match(try lugging/connecting an MX6 without one  ), I had to buy bushing/sleeve kits for each attachment (except the Frontier). It was a learning experience at first - one that had me making several trips to my local Fleet Farm to get it figured out... but after working through and understanding the CAT1-CAT2 bushing/sleeves and CAT 1 QUICK HITCH kits and how they fit my gear, I finally got it figured out.

Lesson learned - check what your attachment comes with, get the right KIT from TSC, Fleet Farm, or even John Deere (more expensive there, though, vs. the Speeco kits from TSC or FF), and you'll be fine. It would be nice if every manufacturer followed the standard (Deere's, of course.. ;) ), but it's not that way and you can't count on everything working normally everytime.

Good luck!

I know that on my buddies 5205 he has 2 holes in the swivel balls. 1 for cat1 and the other for cat 2. thats way easier than keeping track of bushings. especiaily since the tractor didnt come with a tool box

And then you borrow a Farmi winch for the week-end, get it home, off the trailer, onto your 3ph and find that the PTO splines are different....
