Hello everyone who loves light hunting, I want to share with you one piece of advice. I adore night work in the field, because at night it's not as hot as during the day, and in order not to fall asleep during the work, I always take with me a gun and a thermal binocular with a sensor that signals the movement, mostly I see hares on the field, they like to eat on free hahaha, especially after plowing. The night spends about 1 hour, so I recommend everyone! I generally buy binoculars at the store in Arnold, but for you to have an idea of this binocular I found it in an online store - Thermal Binoculars | Thermal Imaging Binoculars for night hunting - ATN Corp
OMG, It's first my post, I a little bit nervous now =D:shocked::thumbsup:

I'd be careful about night hunting, many places it's illegal. In my area, it is legal to hunt hogs at night, but nothing else. If I were to do it, first thing I'd do is call the Game Warden and let him know what I was going to do to make sure everything is legal. Those binocs are nice, but :dollarsign: :money: Around here with all the trees, binoculars have a limited use. You can only see 50 to 100 yards max due to all the trees and brush.

I carry my .44 mag pistol on my tractor when I mow at night. Coyotes will sometimes follow me and hunt what I kick up, but so far I haven't had a clear shot on one. I also see hogs while mowing and can usually get pretty close to them. I've taken a few of them with my pistol. One group of a bout 30 walked out of the trees and in front of me one night. I just kept going straight and sort of went right through the middle of them. The side with the big boar walked off into the dark, but the other half just stood there until I shot the big sow at about 20 feet. During the day I carry my .357 with snake shot and focus on snakes. Couple of years ago I shot over 20 snakes that year. So far, this year I'm at 5.

Around here - we(Brownie & me) seldom go much beyond the influence of the big yard light at night. The night belongs to all the wild animals. Besides - there is no real valid reason to venture out at night. I fall down often enough during the day. Rocks that will twist underfoot, big roots, stobs, etc.

When we are out during the day I carry a shovel. Helps me stabilize. No reason, what-so-ever, for any type of gun. Besides - I carry a shovel because nine times out of ten it will be used to fix/correct something.

That's just the way it is around here.

However - if I had snakes, like Eddie, I'd be packing also. Supposedly, we have rattlesnakes here. I've never run into one on my property in the 38 years I've been here. Bull snakes, garter snakes & rubber boas - yes.

Water moccasins are the most common poisonous snake here in East Texas, but I always see a couple copper heads every year too. I've been told that we have rattlesnakes, but that they are extremely timid and just about impossible to find. A Texas Biologist told me that while he was going to school, the teacher had the class all stand in a circle and try to spot the rattlesnake. It was in the middle of the circle, but almost impossible to see. He never saw it, and only one student was able to see it. He also said that you have to really mess with them to get them to attack. Mostly they remain motionless and invisible. They are nothing like the rattlesnakes that I grew up with in California!!!!

I totally agree - Eddie. Now, go down south about 15 miles. There are many long wide valleys where hay is grown. I've seen rattlesnakes down there. And - BROTHER - they let you know they are there. You would have to be totally deaf to not hear them - when agitated.

They will sound off and actually rise up if you are close enough. And the city folks walk those field in short shorts. One of these days - one of these days. I just hope it's not one of their children.

I have a FLIR camara mounted to top of my hunting truck that displays on the Nav screen.

We have so many coyotes that I just drive the ranch at night with all the lights off and shoot coyotes. I usually do it in the spring as my way of helping out with the calving.

Hi Eddie, thanks for your story, I think this year you should catch a minimum of two coyotes =D
One question, what do you do with snakeskin?
Thanks and have a nice day! Yeah!
