Has anyone bought from them? I think they sell what use to be RHINO tractors. Are they very dependable, can you get parts? The prices are real good, but if its broke down all the time or if you can't get parts then it doesn't matter if it was cheaper its useless!

I bought a Rhino that was a few years old and had only 100 hours on it that was originally sold by Hobby Horse. The bell housing was cracked and the Rhino dealer told me that it was because Hobby Horse makes it's own loaders and does not brace them correctly. We also discovered that this problem had already been fixed once on the tractor.

I called Hobby Horse and the owner denied the problem, but then someone else told me he had lawsuits against him. By the way, his prices are not really that good. The Chinese stuff he sells is cheaper from a company called Hercules in Vancouver, WA area.

I finally sold the tractor to a person who was a mechanic and could take it apart (had to be split down the middle). We also think that maybe the heavy backhoe on the tractor (Hobby Horse makes and sells their own) may have been too much stress for the tractor.

I would not buy a Chinese tractor. My research has shown that they do not harden their steel, their quality control is a joke, and if you get the wrong one you life will be miserable. The one with 100 hours already had leaks, etc.

I recently bought a Yanmar 42FX grey market tractor. The price is excellent, and I think the quality is, also. So far, parts have not been a problem.

Anyway, I am writing a lot, but want to say "be careful" dealing with the person.

I would imagine, as with everything in life, there are good examples, and bad ones. Sounds like you had a real bad experience with one or two brands od chineese tractors.. though i wouldn't categorically deny them. After all even JD has a plant cranking out chineese jd's...

After seeing the jinmas in person, I would be almost as comfterable with them as with a yanmar.

Fit and finish is a big thing.. and no body wants a new tractor to leak.. ( you expect the old ones too! )

Bottom line is you gotta be happy with the machine.. no matter what flag it is from.

Buck, what would this guy have to gain by grinding the serial #'s off new or used tractors unless they were stolen, which they never accused him of? Wow!!! They're in good company there in Idaho, with Toys-R-Us, Hasbro, Mattel, MCI and Mazda.

If a grey market Kubota had the serial number ground off where someone coul not check it out, it would be easy to pass off as a domestic model.

I found a local small time backyard dealer doing that here... The serial number castings and plates were ground off many tractors... in fact.. he was trying to pass off an obviously asian tractor as an older 70's model ford ( 1700 or somehting ).... I went and looked up the tractor and the engine / accessories -alternator, starter, etc ).. were totally different. ).

When asked about parts.. he said.. " Oh I can order them cheaper than the dealer.. come to me.....".. probably because the dealer wouldn't know what to order since it wasn't a ford tractor!

Some people gots lotsa cohjones...

I saw what looked like a brand new 70's - 80's Ford compact that an importer had painted. Come to find out it was a repainted Shibaura. Some of them looked just like the little Fords but they were red. The guy had went as far as putting new Ford decals on it.

This guy did the same things with the decals... and I suspect it was a shibarau <sp?>

Real peice's of work.. these guys.

They get unsuspecting customers to buy these tractors.. then the people get turned off when they can't get parts / service... or find out that they have benn plain duped...

Ruins good customers...

The real funny part is that I can’t keep old SD models in stock and people know exactly what they are. The dealers are going out of their way to be deceitful for NO reason, except maybe they don’t know any other way. Hobby Horse was actually selling greys as Internationals built in California. I still have the full court judgment someplace. Part if it was that he had taken multiple deposits on the same tractors and then told the customers that the tractor was gone and that the deposits were non refundable. If you call the Attorney General of Idaho they will be glad to talk with you about the case. With the selection of dealers and products that customers have these days I sure wish people would shop around more. Deals used to be made by looking someone in the eye, nowadays customers like the anonymity of email and almost refuse to do business in person. Just getting them to call is difficult. Not hard to see why people get screwed.
